Dear Hightstown Residents,

I understand that many of you have questions and concerns regarding the assault reported over the past weekend. These circumstances are understandably unsettling, and I want to assure you that the Hightstown Police Department, in coordination with the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office, is actively investigating the matter.

Because of the sensitive nature of the investigation, certain details must remain confidential to protect the integrity of the case. Any information that may help protect our residents and visitors will be shared as soon as it can be released.

I can confirm that there are two separate incidents under investigation that occurred several months apart. Both remain active investigations, with assistance from our law-enforcement partners at the local, county, state, and federal levels. At this early stage, we cannot determine whether the incidents are connected.

Hightstown remains a safe community. However, as in every community, no place is entirely free from crime. We recognize that these events may cause fear and concern.

For the foreseeable future, the Hightstown Police Department will be increasing patrols throughout the borough.

We encourage everyone to remain vigilant and follow basic safety practices when in public, including staying aware of your surroundings, traveling with others whenever possible, and promptly reporting suspicious activity by calling 9-1-1.

ASSAULT IN HIGHTSTOWN UNDER INVESTIGATION

The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office and the Hightstown Police Department are investigating an assault that occurred in Hightstown on Friday evening.

A 34-year-old woman reported to police that she was walking in the area of Park Way and Rogers Avenue in Hightstown on September 11, 2026, at approximately 7:30 p.m. when she was approached from behind by an unknown male and physically and sexually assaulted.

No arrests have been made and no suspects have been identified. Anyone with any information on the incident or who has had a similar encounter is asked to contact SVU Sgt. Sherika Salmon at (609) 960-3119 or Detective Natalie Martinez at (609) 331-4318. Tips can also be submitted anonymously online at mercercountyprosecutor.com/tips.

The public is reminded to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings at all times and promptly report any suspicious activity to law enforcement. In an emergency, always call 911.

🚧 **Hydrant Flushing Notice –Friday, September 11th** 🚧

As part of the annual fall flushing program, the Water Department will be flushing hydrants, Friday, September 11th on Academy St., Grant Ave. and Stockton St. from Main St. to the Monument. Surrounding areas may be affected.

During this time, you may experience discolored water or low water pressure. Normal water flow will resume once flushing is complete.

Residents are asked to run their water until it runs clear.

📢 YARD WASTE COLLECTION SCHEDULE CHANGE

Beginning Monday, September 14, containerized yard waste collection will move from Tuesdays to Mondays through the end of the season.

📅 Effective September 14 through the end of the season

ALL YARD WASTE MUST BE CONTAINERIZED. Please remove any garbage mixed in with yard waste, or it will not be collected.

Last night, I joined Hightstown Mayor Susan Bluth to recognize funding secured for a new Borough Hall.

Hurricane Irene brought devastating flooding to Hightstown in 2011, severely damaging the borough’s municipal building and forcing government operations to relocate while the community worked through the recovery. The storm’s impact reached far beyond one building, requiring significant changes to municipal facilities and infrastructure.

Now, Hightstown is turning the page.

I was proud to work with my fellow District 14 legislators to secure the funding needed to move this important project forward and bring a new Borough Hall to Hightstown, one that will serve the community for years to come.

This investment is an important step forward for Hightstown and a reflection of what can be accomplished when we work together to strengthen our communities.

Hightstown has shown what resilience looks like. Now, we’re building on that strength for the future.
