The application deadline is coming up quickly for the Highlands Ranch Metro District's Citizens Academy. This free program is a great opportunity to learn how Highlands Ranch operates, with topics ranging from special districts, local history, parks, recreation and open space, water and wastewater services, public works projects and more.

Applications are due by 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14. See below for more details about the program and how to apply.

Kudos to members of the senior center who are making a difference in the community.

Last week, five volunteers gleaned apples at a home in Littleton in partnership with Grow Local Colorado. The organization connects volunteers with residents who donate the harvest from their gardens and fruit trees to local food banks.

If you are an older adult and NOT a member of the Highlands Ranch Senior Center, we want to hear from you! Please see the information and link below about participating in a nonmember survey about what weekend and evening programming you would participate in at the senior center.

Please note: This survey has already been shared with senior center members.

We’d like to hear from older adults who are not currently members of the Highlands Ranch Senior Center. If you are age 55 and older, please take a moment to complete a brief survey which is available through Wednesday, Oct. 15.

As the Metro District and senior center staff consider expanding programming to evenings and weekends, we'd like to understand the types of classes, programs and activities you find interesting and would attend.

Members of the Highlands Ranch Senior Center are having a wonderful time on our first extended trip. They have travelled to Toronto, Niagara Falls, Kingston, Ottawa, Trois Rivières and now Quebec City. The last stop will be Montreal before heading home. Here are a few highlights of the trip so far. The next extended trip we have planned is to Britain and Ireland next May.

A hardy group from the senior center braved the snow and cold in the mountains on Tuesday for a day trip to ride the Leadville Railroad train. The company was sweet, and the fall colors were gorgeous. 🍂

Get connected with important resources for healthy aging at the Older Adult Health & Resource Expo, 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 27 at the Highlands Ranch Senior Center, 200 E. Highlands Ranch Parkway.

More than 40 vendors will be on site to share about their services, including legal, senior moving and real estate, mental health and wellness, in-home care, Medicare and Medicaid plans, senior housing and more.

Simple screenings will also be available, including cognitive assessment, hearing assessment and a wellness wheel.

The event is free, and no registration is required. We look forward to seeing you there!
