City of Highland, KS Highland is nestled in the very Northeast county of Kansas, a small community with a big heart. Joseph, Kansas City, Lawrence, or Topeka.

Highland, Kansas, a rural farming community in western Doniphan County in the midst of the loess bluffs of the Missouri River valley a mile north of Highway 36. A drive of between 30 to 90 minutes will take you to the city life with easy access to a variety of cultural and recreational activities in St. The city of Highland is proud to have Highland Community College as part of its rich educational tradition. The population of Highland is approximately 1,000. The college enrollment adds some 500-600 students to the community during the fall and spring semesters. The community provides a variety of church affiliations, civic organizations, public libraries, and youth groups. Also available is an active business district, day cares, medical clinic, care center, senior citizens center, assisted living, ambulance services, volunteer fire department and other small business located throughout town. Popular events in the area include the semi-annual flea markets, various holiday celebrations, art exhibits at the Yost Art Gallery, hunting, fishing tournaments and the seasonal athletic activities.

Community Awareness post!

Szymon Bookman Binger is a University student from Poland doing his summer exchange program here in Highland!
He is spending his summer introducing educational study guides and learning resources for students to help with schoolwork, as well as resources for parents, new math programs, and a jumpstart program for little ones to get them excited about reading and learning.
He does not represent, nor is affiliated with, any school. This is a summer program to help him pay his way through University.

If he knocks on your door, please know he is fully permitted and if you are not interested he will simply thank you for your time and move on.

Speed prevention campaign focuses on consequences of ignoring speed limits:

Summer travel season is underway, increasing traffic on Kansas roadways. The Highland Police Department reminds the public to recognize speeding as an aggressive driving behavior and to slow down.

The Highland Police Department joins law enforcement across the country to remind drivers that Speeding Catches Up With You and you can expect to see increased law enforcement presence on local roads during the nationwide safety campaign, which runs from July 7-15.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeders don’t just put themselves in danger, they put other road users including passengers, pedestrians and bicyclists at risk as well. Drivers have a shared responsibility to keep themselves and others safe. Obeying the legal speed limit and driving at a reasonable speed for road conditions is part of that responsibility.

Not following posted speed limits is not only against the law, it creates serious risks for everyone on the road. The consequences are far-reaching and can include:

Greater potential for loss of vehicle control

Reduced effectiveness of occupant protection equipment

Increased stopping distance after a driver perceives a hazard

Significant economic costs associated with speed-related crashes

Increased fuel consumption and higher travel costs
