Chief of Police Daniel Swinehart along with Officer Michael Havlik and Officer Ryan Kumor and reserve Officer Brent Harris make up the police department. We practice community policing with some of the events we sponsor listed here. He is assisted by four volunteer instructors with various skills and knowledge that enjoy teaching hunter safety. The department is also involved with bike safety at t
he Highland Elementary School. We teach basic bike riding skills from grades k to 4th. Each year the department sponsors a bike ride from the Village of Barneveld to the Village of Mound Horeb. We take the 5th grade class on a 18 mile bike ride on the Military Ridge State Bike trail to promote exercise and bike riding and making the right decisions in life. The DARE program is taught to 5th graders. Iowa County Sheriff's office administers the DARE Program that the police department supports. The 5th graders will learn about drugs, alcohol, and violence and how important it is to make good decisions. After graduating from the program the kids will understand that there are other alternatives than drugs, alcohol and violence. For example bike riding, skiing, swimming, and hunting.
