A Warm Welcome to Shannon!

We’re so happy to welcome Shannon Powell as the new Director of the Highland Public Library! Shannon is looking forward to getting to know our patrons, working alongside our staff and trustees, and becoming part of the wonderful Highland community.

As we begin this exciting new chapter, we also want to give a heartfelt kudos and thank you to Julie Kelsall-Dempsey for stepping in and helping guide the library through this transition. Her support and dedication helped make the change in leadership a smooth one, and we are truly grateful.

Please join all of us at the library in giving Shannon a big Highland welcome! We’re excited to see what this next chapter brings.

🎃Our annual Halloween Costume Swap has begun! 👻

From now through Halloween, bring in your gently used Halloween costumes or stop by the library to browse what we have available. Costumes are free and open to everyone!

Don’t see something that’s quite right? Keep checking back! We’ll be accepting donations and adding new costumes throughout the next two months, so there will be plenty of opportunities to find the perfect costume. 🧙‍♀️🧛‍♂️👸

Let’s keep costumes out of the landfill and make Halloween a little more affordable for everyone! 🧡♻️

Thank you for visiting our library and for your generous donation.

I joined Gabi Madden from the NYS Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli office at the Highland Public Library to support this year’s New York State Summer Reading Program.

We dropped off 25 string bags at the library for children participating in the program. Kids who complete the program can also pick up a certificate issued by New York State recognizing their participation.

Summer reading is important. It keeps our young people engaged in learning outside of the classroom, strengthens literacy skills, and encourages a habit of reading that can benefit them for years to come.

Thank you to Gabi for continuing to help bring these resources to Highland and to the Highland Public Library for everything they do for our children and families.

Supporting our youth and their education is an investment in the future of our community.
