Big smiles, sirens, and a ride they’ll never forget 🚒❤️
Today, Highland Fire Department had the honor of giving kindergarten contest winner Kylie and her best friend Zoey a special ride to school! We loved being part of such a fun and memorable morning. 🚨✨

Highland Township participated in a mock car crash demonstration at Milford High School this morning. This realistic simulation provides students with a powerful eye opening look at the severe consequences of driving under the influence and/or distracted driving. A heartfelt thank you goes out to Huron Valley Schools for hosting and providing the actors and actresses. These students poured such dedication and emotion in their roles. You made an impact!
Thank you to Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, with a special acknowledgement to Deputy Delanoy and Deputy Lancaster. Your rapid response and guidance during this demonstration showed students exactly what happens at a real emergency scene.
We also want to extend our appreciation to the Milford Fire Dept-specifically FF Gilley and FF Pickett, Star EMS-specifically EMT Greg Pearce (also known as our very own LT here at HTFD) and EMT E’Dris Brown.

Put together as one we all showed professionalism, skill, and realism to leave a lasting impression on our teens.
This cooperative effort is vital in keeping our youth safe behind the wheel. They will undoubtedly carry these lessons with them.

Our probationary firefighters continue to impress us every step of the way. Yesterday, after completing mini academy, these four stayed late voluntarily to help place flags along M59 from Waterbury to Duck Lake. Their dedication, work ethic, and willingness to serve the community do not go unnoticed, and we couldn’t be more grateful for their help.

Shoutout to Probationary Firefighters Jon Motes, Dylan Wills, Sean O’Rourke, and Declan Faron — pictured here absolutely crushing an ice cream snickers bar. Honestly, we can’t blame him, ice cream snickers bars are incredible.

Today’s monthly “Mini Academy” for our Probationary Firefighters focused on advancing their basic pumping skills by training on drafting operations. Each probationary firefighter gained valuable hands-on experience operating the pump panel and setting up a portable tank for drafting operations.

While drafting has become somewhat of a lost art in today’s fire service, it remains an essential skill and a critical tool in our arsenal — especially in areas without hydrant access.

Today, we responded to a call for service that’s as classic as they come — a cat stuck in a tree. Neighbors told us the cat’s owner was at a funeral for her mother, and the little guy had been stranded up there since yesterday.

We’re grateful for our partnership with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team and appreciate their assistance on the scene today.

Some may view calls like this as a “waste of resources,” but we see it differently. Situations like these provide valuable training opportunities that help sharpen the skills we rely on when rescuing people in emergency situations. Just as importantly, they help strengthen the connection and trust between first responders and the community we are proud to serve.

Disclaimer: Not all animals in trees require this service - the vast majority will come out on their own, the same way they got up there. This was special extenuating circumstance.

Don’t miss it! On June 28th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, the Highland Firefighters Goodfellows Association will be hosting a Firefighter Car Wash at Station 1. Multiple bays will be open for a drive-through wash with a minimum $10 donation.

All proceeds will be shared between the Highland Goodfellows, helping local families in need, and Neighbors United’s Walk for the Red, supporting firefighters battling cancer.

Stop by the weekend before the 4th of July, get your vehicle cleaned up by your local firefighters, and help support two great causes in our community!
