Last Monday night, May 8th, after Mayor Rotering read a proclamation to honor Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islanders Heritage month, I took the oath of office to serve as a new City of Highland Park Councilperson! I am the first Asian American woman on HP's Council 🎉 😀 I am committed to representing residents throughout our city, all colors, orientations, income levels, the strong and the vulnerable, the able-bodied and those with disabilities, dedicated to revitalization, smart decision-making and working on issues that matter most to our community.

Thank you to my family, my campaign team, everyone who supported me. Thank you to former Councilpeople for your service, to new colleagues and city staff for your warm welcome. I am grateful to all Highland Park voters and our entire beautiful community. I am dedicated to continuous learning and improvement, listening, representing, and to doing my best to help!

To all my supporters and my campaign team,

Thank you for your kindness, amazing help, and great advice. While it looks like I have been elected based on the results so far, it is going to be several days before every provisional and mail-in ballot is counted.

To my fellow candidates (in alphabetical order) Tony Blumberg, Jeff Hoobler, Kelly Nichols, and Adam Stolberg,
thank you for an issues-oriented campaign and your strong commitment to serving our city. I know we are all passionate and committed to making our community a better place to live, particularly in terms of vibrancy, business climate, sustainability and inclusion. I look forward to working with you and other community leaders from all walks of life to make this happen.

Thank you to everyone who voted, those who early-voted and mailed in your ballots, and those who braved the afternoon rain and hail.

To our entire community, I have genuinely enjoyed meeting many of you for the first time, whether at candidate forums or when I knocked on your doors, I am extremely grateful that you shared your ideas and concerns with me. Let's keep talking. I will hold as my North Star our shared goals of revitalization and great quality of life for Highland Park residents. The future of our community is bright!

Gratefully,
Yumi

Dear Friends,

Since the start of my campaign, I've personally knocked on hundreds and hundreds of doors--altogether, my team and I have knocked on thousands. While on doorsteps, I wrote notes that I left for those who weren't home.

Thank you to everyone we've met along the way, I've enjoyed every minute of our conversations about our community! We have countless smart, talented residents with great ideas, you have so much to offer our city.

With deep gratitude, Yumi

Thank you to D112 Board of Education member Dan Jenks for your confidence in me and your friendship!

Our art organizations in HP are amazing and bring great audiences here! The Art Center Highland Park (TAC) is a vibrant and beautiful part of our community and city. Indira Johnson gave a great artist's talk about her exhibition "BeLonging" at TAC this afternoon. A woman stood up to share that when she walked into the Center Gallery and saw the giant hand ahead, she literally thought, "This is where I belong, right here" 🌠
