Last night, our Junior Master Naturalists worked hard planting trees at the EEC to replace some of the ones that had been removed during recent construction. Service projects are one requirement of this program, and over the course of the year, these students have conducted litter hikes, taught nature lessons to younger students, participated in citizen science projects, and more. We can't wait to recognize their achievements later this year!

Exciting news! At our Entomology Club meeting last September, Carrie from Queen City Pollinator Project showed us how to tag monarchs in our office garden. We were delighted to learn that one of these tagged butterflies then flew approximately 1,642 MILES and landed at the El Rosario butterfly sanctuary in Michoacán, Mexico! A local guide found it and reported the tag number. What an incredible journey!!

We’re excited to welcome Ginny Butsch to University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension who recently started as the 4‑H Youth Development Agent for Campbell County 4-H!

A University of Kentucky graduate with a BFA, Ginny spent 15 years working in educational theatre before finding her way to 4‑H. After several years serving as a program assistant, she discovered that becoming an agent was the perfect way to bring together her passions, priorities, and goals, all in one dream career.

Outside of work, Ginny loves being outdoors with her family hiking, camping, kayaking, and gardening. She’s an avid learner who enjoys taking art and nature classes, and she’s a devoted supporter of the arts, especially community and school theatre programs. 🎭🌿

Fun fact: one of her first jobs after college was leading climbs over the top of the Purple People Bridge spanning the Ohio River!

💬 “I value the opportunities 4‑H and Extension provide for students, families, and communities to learn, serve, and grow. It’s really special to have found a career where I can actively involve my children, husband, parents, and friends in my work and be part of an organization that is truly making the world a better place.”

We’re thrilled to have Ginny serving Campbell County and can’t wait to see the impact she’ll make through 4‑H! 🍀
