🇺🇸 REMEMBERING SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 🇺🇸

Today, the Highland Falls Police Department solemnly remembers the victims and heroes of the horrific attacks of September 11, 2001.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to honor the 2,977 innocent lives lost and remember the countless firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, military members, and citizens who answered the call in a moment of unimaginable tragedy.

We remember the families who lost loved ones.
We remember the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice.
We remember the courage, compassion, and unity that followed.

Their sacrifice will never be forgotten, and their legacy will forever remain a part of our nation’s history.

At Tuesday’s Village Board Meeting, two of our own were proudly recognized for their years of dedicated service to the Village of Highland Falls! 🇺🇸💙

Mayor Jim DiSalvo and the Highland Falls Village Board presented Gregg Jones and Boo Baker with awards recognizing their decades of dedicated service to our community.

Please join us in congratulating Gregg Jones on an incredible 30 years of service to the Village. Gregg is currently in his 37th year as a Village employee and has dedicated that time to serving our community through the Highland Falls Police Department.

Gregg began his career with the Village as a Police Officer. After retiring from the Police Department, he returned to the Village as a part-time dispatcher and today proudly serves as one of our full-time dispatchers.

Gregg’s extensive knowledge of the Village, our emergency operations, and the Highland Falls community makes him an invaluable member of our team. His experience and willingness to share that knowledge have made him a tremendous resource for both new officers and dispatchers. We are incredibly fortunate to have someone so dedicated, knowledgeable, and committed to the community answering the phones and helping keep Highland Falls safe.

We also congratulate Boo Baker on 25 years of service to the Village of Highland Falls. Boo is currently in his 29th year as a Village employee, and for many members of our community, he is one of the most familiar and friendly faces they see every school day.

As our school crossing guard, Boo plays an important role in keeping our children safe as they travel to and from school. His reliability, positive attitude, and genuine care for the children of Highland Falls help make their school days begin and end on a welcoming note. His presence at the crosswalk is a small but incredibly meaningful part of our community.

Both Gregg and Boo represent what public service is all about — dedication, reliability, experience, and a genuine commitment to the people of Highland Falls.

Please join the members of the Highland Falls Police Department and the entire community in congratulating these two outstanding Village employees.

We would also like to congratulate Dave Hurst and Joe Murphy on their recognition for years of service!

📚🚌 BACK-TO-SCHOOL SAFETY REMINDER! 🚌📚

As students head back to school, the Highland Falls Police Department reminds drivers, parents, and students to make safety a priority! 🚸

🚍 Around School Buses:
• Stop when a school bus has its red lights flashing and stop arm extended.
• Slow down and remain alert around bus stops.
• Students should stay a safe distance from the curb and look both ways before crossing.

🏫 In School Zones:
• 📵 Put the phone down and eliminate distractions while driving.
• 🐢 Slow down and obey the posted school-zone speed limit.
• 🚸 Use designated areas for student pick-up and drop-off.
• 👀 Watch carefully for children walking, biking, and crossing the roadway.

Officers will be proactively monitoring speeds in school zones during school hours and will be ticketing violators.

Let’s work together to make this a safe, successful, and wonderful school year! 🍎📚

On behalf of the Village of Highland Falls Police Department, we extend our deepest condolences to the Town of Newburgh Police Department, Detective Thompson’s family, friends, and fellow officers during this incredibly difficult time.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who knew and served alongside Detective Thompson. May his service, dedication, and memory never be forgotten.

Rest easy, Detective Thompson. We stand with you.

It is with extremely heavy hearts that the Town of Newburgh Police Department announces the passing of Detective Christopher Thompson.

Detective Thompson began his career with the Town of Newburgh Police Department in April of 2017, after previously serving with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the Town of Wallkill Police Department.

Throughout his career, Detective Thompson served the Town of Newburgh Police Department in numerous roles and was a valued member of several specialized units. He served in the Patrol Division, as a K-9 Handler with the K-9 Unit, an active Fi****ms Instructor with the Fi****ms Unit, a General Topics Instructor, and a Team Leader on the Department’s Tactical Unit. Most recently, Detective Thompson served as an Investigator in the Detective Bureau.

Detective Thompson’s dedication to his profession, his fellow officers, and the community he served will not be forgotten. His loss is deeply felt throughout our Department and the entire law enforcement community.

We ask that everyone keep Detective Thompson’s family, friends, and fellow officers in their thoughts and prayers as they navigate this incredibly difficult time.

The Town of Newburgh Police Department would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone within the law enforcement community, our local community, and beyond who has reached out and offered their thoughts, prayers, condolences, and support during this difficult time. The outpouring of support for Detective Thompson, his family, and our Department has been truly appreciated.
