Rules of Engagement

The goal of using Facebook by Guilford County Schools (GCS), all of the schools in the District, and teachers or sponsors associated with those schools, is to share important information with our public and engage in an open and respectful dialogue. To help us accomplish this goal, we ask that you abide by the following guidelines:

• Open conversation - not personal issues or


complaints about students and/or school personnel. This page is not intended to circumvent regular communication channels for sharing personal issues and concerns, including personnel matters and student concerns. Comments regarding a personal issue with the District, a school, student or a staff memberwill be removed.

• Be respectful. Personal attacks or comments that are deemed offensive to any member of our community will not be tolerated. Running for a political office? Publish a personal page, and leave ours for sharing news and insights about our district, schools and activities.

• Stay on topic. This is a page dedicated to the education of students of GCS. Let’s keep the conversation related to our district, schools and activities. Comments of all kinds are welcome so long as they directly relate to our district, schools and activities.

• Have a question for a specific employee? Contact them privately. Fans should not expect responses to every question or comment posted on this page.

Thursday
-We will test all 8th grade students in Science.
-We will also test 6th and 7th grade math students that have accommodations and special settings.
-Any student who has not taken a math or reading EOG (make-ups), please come ready to test.

Scores
-We are going to do our best to have scores ready to send home with students on Friday.
-If your student will not be at school Friday, parents are welcome to come by the front office from 9:00am-1:00pm to get a scoresheet.

Retesting
-For those that opted-in for retesting, those tests will happen this Friday and next week.
*Friday 6/5= Math I
*Monday 6/8= ELA Reading
*Tuesday 6/9= Science 8
*Wednesday 6/10= Math

Good Evening Southwest,

Thank you again for working with us as we keep this testing momentum going. Please listen up for some important information.

-If your child would like to opt-in to retesting, the retesting letter needs to be returned by tomorrow. This letter opts your child in to retesting if they are not proficient on a given test. That letter is attached. Please return the letter to your child's homeroom teacher. You can also email the teacher with written permission to opt in. Retesting will happen soon once testing is complete. As soon as those days are finalized, I will let you know.

-All of our EOG and EOC are occurring between now and June 10. You will be able to access your child's Individual Student Report (ISRs) showing test results through your Campus Parent account in Infinite Campus by June 12, following the close of the testing window. If you do not already have a Campus Parent account, we encourage you to set one up. If you need assistance, please contact Ms. Pressley in the front office. If you are unable to access the scores online, please contact the school starting June 12 to request a printed copy that can either be picked up or mailed to you.

Hello Southwest,

This is Dr. Richmond with an update about Southwest Middle School. Our school was without power for about one hour this morning. This interrupted today’s scheduled testing. Once power returned, we were able to get students fed, but we did not resume our testing sessions.

Tuesday’s testing is as follows:
-All 7th and 8th grade students in Math I
-All 6th grade math students (AIMM, Accelerated 6, 6th math) in regular setting
-Math 8 (accommodations and special settings/ IEP and 504s)
It is up to you, but 7th grade students do not need to come to school on Tuesday.

Wednesday’s testing is as follows:
-Math 8 (regular setting)
-Math 7 (regular setting)
-6th grade reading make-ups

Thursday’s Testing is as follows:
-8th grade Science
-7th and 6th math (accommodations and special settings/IEP and 504s)

I want to thank my students and staff for how they managed during this unfortunate time. Let’s keep it together and let’s finish strong.

Hello Southwest Family,

This is your proud principal, Dr. Richmond, calling with your updates for the week. Here are your announcements for the week of May 31.

At the Ranch
I want to say thank you to our kids and community as we as started EOGs strong! Let’s continue to go to bed, come to school early, stay focused, and give our best.

-Monday we will test all 6th graders in math (6th math, AIMM, 6th Accelerated) that test in the regular setting. We will also test all Math I students in 7th grade and 8th grade Math I.

-Tuesday we will test 7th grade math and 8th grade math.

-Wednesday we will test 6th, 7th, and 8th grade math students who have special accommodations and special settings.

-Thursday we will test all 8th grade students in Science.

-On Friday, all 6th and 7th grade students will have their end of year celebrations.

8th Grade Families, in case you missed it, here is the message sent home last night: Good evening- few end of year details: Reminder that you can pick up promotion tickets daily from 12-4 in the front office through Thursday. On Friday, all unclaimed paid tickets will be given to your student to bring home. Remember, if they lose them they cannot be replaced. Also- Dance tickets are on sale now through next week for $10 per student to be given to their homeroom teacher. Thanks and have a great night.
