🔥 Great work guys!

🔥 Structure fire with Victim Rescued 🔥

While members of Rescue 2 “A” were out performing routine maintenance of hydrants in district, they noticed smoke coming from a residential home. Members responded swiftly and promptly to find a working fire and upon entering the home found an unconscious victim inside. These members successfully knocked down the fire and began resuscitation efforts for the victim who is now in stable condition.

We are PROUD to serve the City of Salisbury and its residents and this is just another example of the incredible and heroic work performed by your firefighters.

🔥 Professional Fire Fighters of Greensboro Local 947 have secured important public safety investments in the city’s newly adopted FY 2026-27 budget.

This hard-earned victory includes several investments that will strengthen emergency response capabilities and help meet the needs of a growing community, including:

✅ Increasing funding for fire protection and preparedness
✅ Implementing a Special Separation Allowance for Greensboro fire fighters
✅ Expanding support for Greensboro’s Behavioral Health Response Team

📰 WE'RE IN THE NEWS — AND THE PRESSURE IS ON 📰

FOX8 WGHP covered our fight today, and we want to make sure every High Point resident sees it.

Greensboro just passed its budget — and it includes a Special Separation Allowance for its firefighters. Now the question every High Point firefighter is asking is: when does our city do the same?

As HPPFFA President Robert Templeton told FOX8:

"When somebody like Greensboro gets a huge bump like what they've got, all of our guys are going... 'Greensboro is looking at their firefighters' health, their safety and their dignity for their retirement.'"

This isn't about money for money's sake. It's about the reality of what firefighting does to the human body:

🔥 Firefighters face exponential cancer risks compared to the average worker.
🔥 Most High Point firefighters retire between 50 and 55 years old, and when they do, the cancer doesn't retire with them.
🔥 The police department has had a version of this benefit since the 1980s. Our firefighters deserve the same.

The City of High Point has not announced when they plan to approve a budget. We've heard the delays before. Our members — and our retirees — can't afford to wait.

Neighboring cities are acting. Greensboro acted. Wilmington acted. New Hanover acted. Gastonia and Mooresville already have separation allowances in place.

🚒 WHAT INVESTMENT IN FIREFIGHTERS LOOKS LIKE — AND WHAT HIGH POINT OWES ITS OWN 🚒

Last night, the City of Wilmington, NC, passed its FY26-27 budget — and it's a historic win for its firefighters and a lesson for every city in North Carolina.

Here's what Wilmington just committed to:
✅ Starting firefighter pay raised to over $58,000 — roughly $10,500 MORE than what High Point pays its starting firefighters
✅ An average pay increase of ~19.9% across the board
✅ Funding for Mission Ready Gear and new SCBAs
✅ A dedicated mental health therapist specifically for Fire and PD
✅ A new Technical Rescue Truck and Trailer
✅ Inflation adjustments and other investments in their people

Wilmington's leadership looked at their firefighters and said: YOU are worth investing in.

So we have to ask: where has High Point's investment been?

Our city accepted a SAFER grant this current fiscal year to hire 24 additional firefighters just to reach the four personnel assigned per apparatus — 12 years after a 2014 IAFF study said it was needed. Twelve years! And while we waited, the problems compounded: a paralyzing retention crisis, significant pay compression, and a steady erosion of competitive compensation and benefits.

High Point firefighters have been patient. They've shown up every shift, answered every call, and protected this community through it all. That patience has a limit, and that limit is now.

Here is what High Point Firefighters are calling on City Council and Mayor Cyril Jefferson and the City of High Point Government to deliver:

🔴 Fund the Special Separation Allowance for High Point Firefighters
🔴 Fund 401(k) parity with the High Point Police Department
🔴 Fund the Evergreen Pay Study Recommendations
🔴 Fund the fire apparatus debt service in full: (1) Ladder Truck, (1) Engine, and (1) Tanker
🔴 Fund the STO and Division Chief Positions

This isn't a wish list — it's what a city that values its firefighters looks like on paper. Wilmington, New Hanover, and Greensboro just proved it can be done. High Point, it's your turn.

Tonight, the City of Wilmington officially approved a budget that includes a living wage for Wilmington firefighters.

For years, firefighters have served this city with pride while many struggled to afford the community they protect. With the approval of this budget, a firefighter’s starting salary after completing the academy will increase to over $58,000, marking a major step forward in recruiting, retaining, and supporting the dedicated men and women who answer the call every day.

This budget also includes funding for Mission Ready gear, helping ensure firefighters have the equipment they need to safely and effectively serve our community.

This is more than a pay increase, it’s an investment in public safety, our firefighters, and their families. It’s a recognition of the sacrifices made every day and a commitment to building a stronger fire department for the future.

Tonight, the City of Greensboro made history for its Professional Fire Fighters of Greensboro.

Despite facing the very same fiscal pressures as the City of High Point Government faces, if not to a greater extent, the Greensboro City Council didn't use those challenges as an excuse — they used them as a call to action. This evening, Greensboro's council approved more than $20 million in additional public safety funding, including:

✅ Special Separation Allowance for firefighters
✅ 401(k) contributions — achieving parity with police
✅ Salary step increases
✅ New fire apparatus, station renovations, and new station construction

City of High Point Government, it's time to ask: when will our city do the same?

The Firefighter Special Separation Allowance isn't just a retirement bridge to Social Security — it is a proven recruitment and retention tool that attracts the most qualified candidates and keeps our most experienced firefighters where they belong: protecting High Point.

Our firefighters deserve no less than what Greensboro has committed to tonight. We call on the High Point City Council to step up, roll up their sleeves, and invest in the men and women who protect this community every single day.

High Point deserves better. High Point firefighters have earned it.

House Bill 1203, the Family Support for Those Who Serve Act, passed House Higher Education and is now headed to the House Committee on Appropriations.

The legislation expands tuition waivers for the children of certain public safety employees, including firefighters, helping create greater access to North Carolina’s community colleges for families who make sacrifices in support of public safety.

Thank you to Mike Schietzelt for N.C. House who delivered a great presentation of the bill. We also appreciate the committee’s support, and look forward to seeing this important legislation continue moving forward.
