Dogs are taken to the Higginsville dog impound when found running at large within city limits. After 7 days the dogs are transported to an animal rescue group where they will be up for adoption. If your dog has been impounded call 660-584-2104 to retrieve your dog. The cost for retrieving your dog from impoundment is $5 pick-up fee and $10 per day. An annual city dog license is also required for owning a dog within the city of Higginsville. City dog licenses are purchased at city hall.

REMINDER!!!! If you own a dog within the city limits of Higginsville, a city license is required for that dog. This is an annual license which means that you have to renew the license every year. The Higginsville Police Dept. is actively enforcing this ordinance, effective immediately. Dog licenses can be purchased at city hall.

The City of Higginsville Dog Impound is where dogs are taken when found running at large. If your dog has been impounded you can retrieve your dog by contacting the Higginsville police department at 660-584-2104. The cost of retrieving your dog is a $5 pick up fee and $10 per day. The city also requires an annual city dog license which can be purchased at city hall. Dogs will be kept at the impound for 7 days. After the 7 days the dogs will go to animal shelters or rescues to be adopted. Dogs can be adopted directly from the Higginsville Dog Impound at no cost, however the dog is required to be vaccinated and spayed or neutered at the cost of the person adopting the dog.
