Who's who Wednesday...
We, City Of Higginsville EMS, have been getting a lot of questions/interest on "how we like our New building?"
I do love to talk and answer questions, but this question gives me mild concern. While we, and Higginsville Fire Protection District, work closely together on some incidents, like car crashes and house fires and the City of Higginsville, for most of its history, operated a Fire Department and an Ambulance Department, we have never been 1 Department or entity. AND then in April 2016 the voters in and surrounding Higginsville voted to create Higginsville Fire Protection District. That means they are their own political tax based entity, and not in anyway part of the City of Higginsville, Mo. They serve and provide Fire protection for the City of Higginsville and the rest of their District, that surrounds the Higginsville area and collect property tax from those areas. We serve and provide Emergency Medical Services for the City of Higginsville and the area surrounding Higginsville, including Mayview and Corder and are funded by the City of Higginsville and patient billing. I say all this because, voters need to understand what they are voting for or against. If the HFPD runs a tax initiative or bond issue, it does not help HEMS, If the City runs a tax or bond issue, it does not benefit HFPD. And trust me when I say we both could use more funding.
We are Thrilled that after 10 years of hard fought funding and construction issues, our brothers at HFPD now have their very own property/building! They deserve it, for all they do for all of us on a volunteer basis and very tight budget.
Now you know, who's who lol.
