A Beautiful Senior Picnic in Wantagh

This week, our Wantagh seniors gathered at Wantagh Park for a fun-filled picnic with more than 80 participants in attendance! Seniors enjoyed the outdoors, played games, shared laughs, and took part in friendly competition, including a very fun egg race. The day ended with plenty of food, multiple six-foot sandwiches, and a lot of smiles!

It was a great day connecting with Long Island’s business community at the HIA-LI 38th Annual Trade Show and Conference, held at the Suffolk Federal Credit Union Arena on Suffolk County Community College’s Brentwood campus.

Catholic Charities of Long Island CEO Michael Smith and Board Chairman Bill Ayers were especially happy to spend time with HIA-LI President and CEO Terri Alessi-Miceli, Power Resources International CFO Ellen Morelli-Ford, and Advantage Title President and CEO Christopher Nuzzi.

While exploring the exhibit hall, Michael and Bill had the opportunity to sit with Joe Limongelli, filling in on The Donna Drake Show, and Claude Solnik of Long Island Press and Schneps Media to discuss our mission, the impact we’re making in communities across Long Island, and what’s ahead for Catholic Charities of Long Island and the individuals and families we serve.

Thank you to Terri and her team at HIA-LI for hosting this wonderful event and bringing our business community together. We look forward to getting more involved next year.

Danielle Campbell, our Director of Development and Communications, visited Talbot House, our residential stabilization center in Bohemia. It is a place where she says miracles are made. Making those miracles happen for those sick and suffering with addiction includes Sister Lynn Caton, C.S.J., a clinical supervisor at Talbot House, and Sal Guli, the Talbot House chef and kitchen manager. Talbot House is one of two addiction treatment centers run by Catholic Charities of Long Island and licensed by the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports.

The day gave students the opportunity to talk openly about mental health, learn coping skills, and hear an important message: they are not alone, help is available, and things can get better.
