SAFER Academy Day 4 (Thursday, June 11) This morning SAFER students put on their fire gear and extricated a vehicle with the Rescue crew and firefighters at station #3. Then they traveled to a local park to cook their own lunch with the YMCA cooking trailer. Students learned about healthy food options, safe cooking practices, and handling of foods. Lunch was delicious and there were no leftovers!

SAFER Academy Day #3. Wednesday (June 11), we spent the morning at CVCC training facility with Hickory Fire training division and engine #5 crew. While wearing fire gear, students used fire hoses, forcible entry tools, and conducted search and rescues.

SAFER Academy Day 2. Tuesday afternoon (June 9) we visited Catawba County Firefighters Museum and then traveled to St Stephens Fire Department to check out their smoke house, do some fire hose bowling, and discover how to extinguish a fire before the use of fire trucks. (fire bucket brigade).

Day #1 of SAFER Academy (Student Academy of Fire, EMS, & Rescue). High School students from Catawba county schools spent last week learning about emergency services and careers. Here are photos from Monday, June 8. Today we focused on team building and communication.
