The Western Piedmont Council of Governments (WPCOG) is a voluntary association of local governments organized in 1968 as a nonprofit group to provide long-range planning and technical assistance. Our organization is one of 16 regional councils in North Carolina formed under NC General Statutes 160A 470-478. Local governments eligible for WPCOG membership include Alexander, Burke, Caldwell and Cata

wba Counties located in Western NC and the 24 cities and towns within those counties. Our mission statement is to "serve all local government members with professional, cost effective assistance on a variety of local, regional, state and federal issues and programs." Public Notice is given that the Western Piedmont Council of Governments (WPCOG) Regional Housing Authority will hold a public hearing at the WPCOG office located at 1880 2nd Ave. NW, Hickory, NC, 28601, on Thursday, July 9, 2026, to receive comments on a revision to WPCOG Administrative Plan which increases the minimum monthly rent from $0 to $50 effective 8/1/2026. The meeting will begin at 11 am, at which time any person wanting to be heard may appear.

Thank you Naomi Kowles and WBTV News for shedding light on Charlotte’s unwise plan to transfer 63 million gallons of water each day out of the Catawba River. Our local governments are not against Charlotte growing, but it should not come at the expense of other communities that rely on the Catawba River.
