Looking for a read? Slow down and read about the struggles that helped shape the holiday. Explore our digital bookshelf designed by Challenger Intern Christopher Murphy, which contains stories of poor working conditions, strikes, and labor riots that ultimately helped lead to the creation of the national Labor Day holiday. Thank you Christopher for designing this Digital Bookshelf! Happy Labor Day from the CVCC Library!

What Librarianship Looks Like Today! 🙂

CVCC Work-Based Learning Student Jessie Shell is discovering that Outreach & Instruction Librarian Anita McRary has a playful side—especially when there’s a long-term library project in the works!

Earlier this week, Jessie and Anita teamed up (or perhaps conspired) to create a backdrop painting for a special October compilation video.

We’re not quite ready to reveal all the details just yet, but we can promise that something fun, creative, and literary is in the works.

Stay tuned for updates as we get closer to unveiling what we hope will be a memorable literary experience!

What Librarianship Looks Like Today! 🙂

Associate Dean of S.O.A.R. Commons Dr. Staci Wilson may look like she’s up to something mischievous, but rest assured—she’s actually troubleshooting a technical issue!

We are incredibly grateful for Dr. Wilson’s tenacity, patience, and positive attitude in solving problems. Whether the challenge is technical, logistical, or just plain puzzling, she approaches it with determination and a can-do spirit.

We’re lucky to have someone who is always willing to tackle the problem and find a solution—even when she looks like she might be plotting something!

Thank you, Dr. Wilson, for all you do to keep the S.O.A.R. Commons flying high!

What Librarianship Looks Like Today! 🙂

Our CVCC Library volunteer Karla Illanes has a special talent for keeping our plants healthy, happy, and thriving!

We’re so grateful for the time, care, and positive energy Karla brings to the library. Her green thumb helps make our space feel just a little more welcoming, vibrant, and inviting for everyone who walks through our doors.

Thank you, Karla, for helping our library—and our plants—grow!

What Librarianship Looks Like Today! 🙂

We’re excited to welcome Jimmy Smallwood to our S.O.A.R. Commons team this fall! Jimmy is completing his social work internship with us as he works toward graduation from Appalachian State University. He’ll be lending his talents to our C.V.C.C. Cares Department, helping us connect students with the care, resources, and support they need to thrive.

We’re always happy to add another helping hand—and an aspiring social worker—to the S.O.A.R. Squad!

Welcome, Jimmy! We’re grateful to have you with us and look forward to watching you learn, grow, and make a difference this semester!

What Librarianship Looks Like Today! 🙂

Sometimes learning the library means more than shelving books—it means navigating digital resources, solving puzzles, and having a little fun along the way!

CVCC Work-Based Learning student Jessie Shell is getting to know our online catalog through a fun scavenger hunt designed to build her library and research skills.

We are incredibly grateful to have Jessie join us in the Library this fall semester! We look forward to helping her develop new skills, gain valuable work experience, and discover just how many adventures can begin with a library catalog.

Welcome to the Library, Jessie! We’re so glad you’re here!
