Towns County Fire and Rescue enjoyed celebrating Fire Prevention month at Towns County Schools. Everyone had a great time. Pre-k through 5th grade all experienced what it would be like for a room to be filled with smoke and how to escape safely.

What a great afternoon! Thank you Calvary Baptist Church for the first responders appreciation day. Great lunch and fellowship. Also, had the opportunity to have some fire prevention classes. Always grateful for the opportunity to teach kids about fire safety. Thank you Lt. Jonathan Wilson and all public safety that attended and helped.

The Fire Safety Trailer uses realistic scenarios to teach children how to react to fire and weather emergencies in the safety of a training environment.
The trailer’s features include living room, kitchen, and bedroom fire and severe weather scenarios. Children can be taught verbally and visually and have a chance to practice skills they’ve just been taught.
Towns County Fire Department is thankful to have had the chance to add this amazing training tool to their fire prevention and public safety program.
“The fact that children in our community can practice feeling a hot door and have the room fill with smoke, so they can practice staying low and getting out is great,” said Lt. Jonathan Wilson, Towns County Fire Department and Fire Prevention Program. “I have never seen such a realistic tool for fire prevention and public education.”
The Towns County Fire Department is excited to be taking their trailer on the road. They recently attend the Georgia Mountain Fair, where they were able to reach out to 622 children to teach them how to escape a smoke-filled living room. They will be at Towns County Elementary School in October for Fire Prevention week and back to the fairgrounds for the Fall Festival in October.
