We are incredibly grateful to the United States Deputy Sheriff's Association (USDSA) for their unwavering support of small departments. Thanks to their generosity, we recently received three Streamlight flashlights for our team. This means every squad car now has a reliable spare flashlight—because we all know how crucial it is to have working equipment during calls. Your commitment to enhancing our capabilities makes a real difference. Thank you! https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.usdeputy.org%2F%3Ffbclid%3DIwcGRvZgFleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFMTlVXRVkxcjBBTmdnWWRSc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHjRTb26ZimOf73e2DFSRew2O0TweSe8xgrXP5ud7S-8a5ZfTaG2dwNFHSGnn_aem_RvwclvaZFIYkw9lDTYjHqw&h=AUA8FPc9ebkquhLQGLzDCdbP1_Nc1Pk0wmjo2Pt4nsITiPrOMbN2VsrLI9hF2TiEFmkSUVqTy_OENeP3mKWaWf6U8Z02SXia5_6T8KanMOf9lmkNA-eFliwnrOa3JEB-X_Th

❗❗ATTENTION COMMUNITY MEMBERS❗❗

It has come to our attention that there are many visitors to Centennial Park who are ignoring the caution tape around the pond and walking trail. Village Staff made the difficult decision to close the trail as it has been deemed unsafe after recent flooding.

DO NOT BYPASS THE BARRIERS THAT ARE IN PLACE. For your safety we will enforce this no trespassing area.

We have met with engineers and are now awaiting information and cost estimates from a specialized Geotech engineering firm. Unfortunately, the berm behind Centennial Park was badly damaged and will need to be repaired in the short term and then eventually replaced.

McLean County EMA is attempting to declare the entire county a disaster area. We are hopeful that this will happen so that we can secure funding for this extremely costly repair. We are working as diligently as possible to get this area fixed quickly.

🚨 Attention Community! 🚨

We want to inform you that on September 4, 2026, both our Elementary and Jr/Sr High School will be conducting a Safety Drill. This is a crucial exercise aimed at ensuring the safety and preparedness of students and staff.

Please note that this is just a drill, and there’s no cause for concern. We appreciate your support in helping us maintain a safe environment for everyone.

Thank you for your cooperation! 👍

If you have recently had storm damage, please look at the McLean County Emergency Management Agency page. There is a link that you can report damage to. This will help the county potentially be deemed a disaster area and could help us get funding to fix damage.

Just a little FYI on how we try to fund projects at the parks.

Did you know....??

In order to make the best use of revenue received the Village of Heyworth operates under a five-year budget plan. Much of what you see happening within Village limits was planned for in 2021. The Trustees and staff have adopted this method because it allows us the best opportunity to secure additional grant funding.

Our success in securing these dollars equates to being able to provide more (think upgraded park equipment, nicer mulch, a boat dock, sewer infrastructure or road rebuilding) at a lessor overall Village cost. Fortunately, the Village staff is quite adept at being creative when it comes to formulating projects and writing applications that will score high enough to earn grant funds. There aren't many Villages our size that utilize this type of funding due to the complicated nature of the grant process.

We have steadily been updating the park infrastructure within the Village. We wish that we could upgrade everything immediately! Unfortunately, that just isn't feasible. The Village owned Hillside Park is slated for an upgrade in 2027. We hope to combine funding from three different sources in addition to our own coffers to provide something wonderful for the neighborhood and community.

As always, we invite you to attend our board meetings on the first and third Thursdays of the month (That is tonight - 6:30!). We often discuss our projects, five-year plan, our budgets and priorities. We will always welcome public comments.

Wishing you all a great day,
Michelle
