Looking for a timeless masterpiece to add to your reading list? 📚🔥

In our latest "Check It Out" segment, we caught up with Isaac McKinnon, the star and producer of the action-comedy Blind Cop 2. While he might be known for over-the-top cinema, his ultimate book recommendation is an absolute literary classic.

Isaac shared that he is a massive sci-fi and genre fan, and he’s currently re-reading "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury.

According to Isaac, it is one of the most crucial novels any artist or creator can read. He dives into how Bradbury brilliantly examines:

Our relationship to art and creative expression 🎨

How society processes and controls information 🌐

The ways people are socially programmed by the technology surrounding them 📺

Whether you're reading it for the first time or looking to rediscover its chillingly relevant themes, you can reserve your copy of Fahrenheit 451 right now at the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library! Visit us online at www.hwpl.org or stop by the Reference Desk to get started.

What a spectacular night of world-class jazz right here in the Five Towns! 🎷🎹

We had a packed house in Gold Hall this past Thursday night for "Jazz on Broadway: The Anderson Brothers Play Cole Porter In-Person." Grammy-winning Juilliard graduates and identical twins Peter and Will Anderson—acclaimed by the New York Times as "virtuosos on clarinet & saxophone"—delivered an unforgettable performance alongside the outstanding Ehud Asherie on piano.

The trio took the crowd on a lively journey through iconic Cole Porter classics like "Night & Day" and "I Get a Kick Out of You." Fun fact: Ehud Asherie gave a special shout-out to our beautifully rebuilt house piano afterward, praising its incredible touch and sound!

A huge thank you to The Friends of the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library for generously funding this incredible evening, and to Jack Kleinsinger for introducing these legendary Blue Note residents to our stage.

Check out some performance snapshots to see the magic on stage! 📸

In the news! 🗞️ Thank you to the Long Island Herald and reporter Melissa Berman for this wonderful feature on the United Choral Society’s annual spring concert, held right here at HWPL on June 7th.

We are incredibly proud that our very own Gold Hall has been the staging ground for community concerts by this dedicated volunteer ensemble for more than 20 years! Under the direction of conductori Sharon Pesenti, the audience was treated to everything from a dramatic Les Misérables medley to a patriotic salute honoring our nation's upcoming 250th anniversary.

Pick up a print copy of the latest edition of the Herald to see the full page and Kevin Tobin's fantastic photos of the performers.

Have you seen the newest addition to our Children’s Department? 🧩✨

We want to extend a massive thank you to NYS Assemblyman Ari Brown! His generous Bullet Aid funding provided the library with a brand-new, interactive PLAY Table for our younger patrons to enjoy.

The updates don't stop there—we are also eagerly anticipating the arrival of new Teen lounge furniture later this summer!

Looking for your next movie night pick? 🍿🎬

In our latest "Check It Out" interview, HWPL Public Relations Librarian Darren Paltrowitz spoke with Isiah Hilt, star of the new film "Street Smart"—which is an official selection at the Bentonville Film Festival—alongside itself director Catherine Hardwicke.

When asked for a recommendation, Isiah delivered an awesome movie marathon list. From the action-packed film "Ambulance" to his absolute favorite Disney classics like "Frozen 2," "Moana," "The Lion King," and "Tarzan," he's got your weekend binge-watching covered. (And of course, he highly recommends checking out "Street Smart" when it's released!)

Want to binge-watch like Isiah? You can reserve all of these Disney favorites and more on DVD and Blu-ray right now at the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library! Visit www.hwpl.org or stop by the Reference Desk to get started.
