Good morning, everyone. Our post on w**d control has certainly generated some feelings. The resolution has been on the books since 1983 and was recently amended in 2023, so this is nothing new. Agree or disagree, that is your choice and your right. We keep comments open so you can voice your opinions, respectfully. What we will not tolerate is hate speech of any kind. Do it once, your comment will be deleted. Do it a second time and you'll find yourself blocked.

Additionally, please feel free to bring your comments and ideas to the Village Board meetings. We welcome feedback from our residents and encourage people to participate in local government.

Finally, one clarification: there is nothing in the resolution that specifies how noxious w**ds need to be removed. No one is forcing anyone to use chemicals if they choose not to. Cut them, pull them, spray them... it's YOUR choice.

The Village of Hewitt does hereby ordain that any owner or resident of any land within the Village of Hewitt, unless specifically exempted shall destroy all noxious w**ds which grow on the property and on any terraces and ditches abutting such property. It is also the property ownerโ€™s responsibility to cut the w**ds along the roadside ditches of their property if their property borders residential homes or lots. W**ds are required to be destroyed at least twice during the growing season. The first destruction must be done by June 15th and the second destruction by August 1st.โฃ

If any property owner fails to destroy noxious w**ds as required, such owner shall receive a written notice. After ten (10) days following written notice, the Village of Hewitt Board has the authority to employ a person to destroy noxious w**ds.โฃ
