City of Herrin Fire Department This is the official page for the City of Herrin, IL's Fire Department. PLEASE DO NOT use this page for Emergency Notifications.

The Herrin Fire Department consists of a Full-time Fire Chief, three full-time Captains, three full-time Lieutenants, nine full-time Firefighters and 2 paid-on-call Firefighters. The full-time personnel belong to the International Association of Firefighters Union and are Local 3251. There are three shifts that work 24 hours on and 48 hours off. There is a Captain, Lieutenant, and three Firefighte

rs assigned to each shift. The HFD is an ISO Class 3 department beginning February 1, 2018. The HFD is an all-hazards department. Services provided but not limited to: fire suppression, hazardous materials, technical rescue, dive/water rescue and recovery, Unmanned Aircraft Systems (Drone), Extrication at motor vehicle accidents, Emergency Medical Responder. The HFD is part of the State of Illinois Mutual Aid Box Alarm System, Division 45. HFD houses 2 divisional assets: Western Shelter and Marine 45. Members are part of the following MABAS teams: Hazardous Materials, Technical Rescue and Dive/Sonar.

There will be a large public safety presence at the Veterans Airport today.....THERE IS NO EMERGENCY.

The Veterans Airport of Southern Illinois in Marion will be conducting a Full-Scale Exercise on Saturday, May 30th, 2026 from 1pm to 4 pm.

This exercise is to test the Airport’s Emergency Plan and Response to a simulated airplane crash. You will see various emergency response vehicles on the airfield and in the surrounding areas.

This is an EXERCISE and not a real emergency event.

Please do not report the EXERCISE as an emergency on social media or notify 911.

Ladder 1 will be there as always assisting the Williamson County Fire Protection District drape the large American flag over the entrance to Veterans Airport!

HFD has personnel that are part of the Division 45 Technical Rescue Team, the Hazardous Materials Team and the Water Team.

Yesterday MABAS delivered new equipment to our Division, including 3 new search and rescue cameras and one of the new boats as part of a new double decker boat package.
