COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANT
The City of Hernando is now accepting applicants for the position of Community Development Assistant. This is a part-time position (approximately 20 hours per week) that will report directly to the Director of Community and Economic Development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Excellent verbal skills to engage in customer service and communication, interacting with residents, visitors, and other community stakeholders.
• Administrative support including, but not limited to, proofreading documents, managing files, data entry and maintaining records.
• Supports various projects by performing administrative tasks and collaborating with different departments.
• Conducts research and compiles relevant information for community certifications and programs.
• Assists Community Development Director in maintaining a social media presence, creating consistent meaningful content on social media, including writing social media posts, improving community engagement, and promoting social media campaigns.
• Exceptional written communication skills to write relevant, clear and concise content for the city’s social media accounts.
• Other duties include providing a supportive role in planning and ex*****on of city events and programs.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Requirements
• An ideal candidate will have experience and a strong dedication to community development.
• Proficiency in technology and software applications, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat and social media platforms with the ability to learn new software applications.
• Candidate should be self-sufficient, possess time management and problem-solving skills, and be capable of working independently or collaboratively.
• Maintain composure in heated situations.
• Good mathematical skills
• Maintain confidentiality with sensitive information.
Education Level and Experience Required
• High school diploma, or equivalent education with strong organizational and multitasking abilities
• Two-year college education or related field preferred and/or experience in community-oriented roles are also considered
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driver history and insurable.
