Sumpter Fire Dept. has been out again tonight regarding the smoke smell in the area. We have determined there is not an active fire, however the fire in the Mt. Olive area was still burning last week and was still under containment. The smoke smell is very strong in this area and we believe that is where the smoke smell in the community is coming from.
With that being said, we are still under a burn ban, and if anyone sees an active fire or smoke, your first call should be to 911 so they can promptly get us notified without delay.
