Please be cautious and weather aware as there is threat of severe weather across the state. We have provided the following tips to help keep you safe.

STAYING SAFE DURING A TORNADO

While tornados usually come with some warning, they can still come on fast and furious. You could be in the midst of a tornado rather quickly. Here are some tips for staying safe during a tornado.

*Pay attention National Weather Service, NOAA Weather Radio, or local alerting system for current emergency information and instruction

*Immediately go to a safe location that you have identified. Go to a safe shelter immediately, such as a safe room, basement, storm cellar or a small interior room on the lowest level of a sturdy building.

*If you can’t stay at home, make plans to go to a public shelter.

*Protect yourself by covering your head and neck with your arms and putting materials such as furniture and blanks around or on top of you.

*Stay away from windows, doors, and outside walls.

*If you are outdoors and cannot get to a building, cover your head and neck with your arms and cover your body with a coat or blanket, if possible.

*Do not try to outrun a tornado in your car.

*Do not go under an overpass or bridge. You’re safer in a low, flat location.

*Watch out for flying debris that can cause injury or death.
