🚨 SEWICKLEY TOWNSHIP EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY – PUBLIC NOTICE 🚨

Sewickley Township EMA is actively and has been monitoring the Youghiogheny River for the potential formation of ice jams due to recent temperature fluctuations and now warming temps and rain. A flash flood watch has just been issued by our partners at the NWS.

Ice jams can develop quickly and may cause rapid rises in water levels and localized flooding, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas along the river.

πŸ‘€ Sewickley Township EMA is currently:
β€’ Monitoring river levels and ice movement
β€’ Coordinating with Westmoreland County Emergency Management and partner agencies, including West Newton , Sutersville , and Elizabeth Township.
β€’ Preparing resources in the event response actions become necessary

🏠 Residents near the river should:
β€’ Remain alert to changing conditions
β€’ Move vehicles, equipment, and valuables away from the riverbank
β€’ Be prepared to take action if flooding occurs
β€’ Avoid walking or operating equipment on river ice

⚠️ Ice jam flooding can occur with little warning.

There is no immediate danger at this time, but Sewickley Township EMA will continue to monitor conditions closely and provide updates if needed.

πŸ“’ Please monitor Sewickley Township EMA and Sewickley Township official pages for updates.

What are we looking at? Expanding light snow that becomes heavier as dawn approaches with the highest snowfall rates likely occurring along and south of the I-70 corridor. More details are provided within the image and additional updates will come as the event unfolds.
