Urgent volunteer need starting TODAY! A generous apple orchard in Bayfield—Erickson Orchard—has offered their surplus apples to distribute to food shelves in the region. We’re seeking volunteers to pick apples Monday, October 24th (today!) through Sunday, October 30th.

Picking bags and bins to hold the apples are provided at the orchard. Please help us glean as many apples as possible for our Northland neighbors!

For more information please contact Tim: [email protected] or 218-336-2306.

Attention students in grades 9-12 (and up to age 21). The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office Law Enforcement Explorer Program has openings for interested youth.
Students in the Explorer Program learn first-hand the duties and responsibilities of police officers. Exploring is focused on teaching youth about career fields that might interest them and encouraging them to prepare for the future. In doing so, the program builds self-worth and self-confidence in youth.

By bringing interested youth and police officers together on a regular basis, the explorers are able to apply the information and tactics they learn in mock situations at the Minnesota Law Enforcement Explorer Conference each April, and at the National Law Enforcement Explorer Conference. The National Conference is held every other summer in a major metropolitan area, such as Washington D.C. or Flagstaff, AZ.
These conferences provide the explorers with opportunities to meet with their peers, be exposed to law enforcement agencies at the state and federal levels, and the chance to receive college scholarship money through their participation in the mock situations.

More information can be found online at http://www.mnleexplorer.org/ The first meeting will be held on Sunday, September 25. Meetings take place in the Pike Lake area every other Sunday from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
If you have any questions or are interested in the program, please contact
Deputy Sean Clark, [email protected] or
Deputy Alyssa Schlichting, [email protected]
