I'm delighted to announce that Operation: Helping Heroes 2024/2025 has met it's initial goals! So...... With the approval of the Council of Administration, we're adding to it!!!! Now we'll be raising funds for a steam table for the kitchen at Ft. Dodge. If you've ever eaten at a "Chinese Restaurant", the cart that you get your food from is a steam table. It's designed to keep food hot/warm. So, our new goal is to raise $2000 to go toward the steam table. They can be quite expensive. I have no idea what kind of table Ft. Dodge needs, so I thought a monetary donation would be best. Let's get the word out and get those funds raised! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.

People like Kid Rock, Trace Adkins and Toby Keith would come through on a USO tour and entertain us. They put themselves in harms way to bring a touch of home to the front lines. For that, I will be forever grateful. Rest in Peace Toby and Thank You for your service to our country.

GOOD LAWD!!!!!! Just finished separating all the Helping Heroes stuff (socks, underwear and t-shirts) to be delivered to the 5 facilities in Kansas. The Helping Heroes program must and will be restructured!! This was WAY too much stuff for only 5 facilities!!!! Next year, there will be a LIMIT and it won't be under garments!! Please don't take this as a complaint! I'm SO proud of the Kansas VFW for stepping up in such a big way!!

My Mother always said "Be careful what you ask for....You might just get it" I guess I didn't listen! The below flyer is a new program that the Kansas VFW approved last June. Well.... The state Posts met that challenge in a BIG way! Each item is a "Unit". The VFW Posts of Kansas collected 3,670 Units!!!!!!!!! WOW! As you can see by the flyer, these items will be distributed between 5 facilities. I think I'm going to have to go beyond the 5 facilities, like nursing homes with Veterans in them. I made it a competition to see which Post could collect the most Units. Post #7972 Ransom won for "Small Post" with 257 Units collected. Post 1786 Manhattan (my Post) won for "Large Post" with 1,010 Units collected!! Each winning Post received a certificate and a check for $250 from me (the State Surgeon, Dept. of Kansas, VFW). Now in Feb/Mar, I'll be visiting these facilities to deliver collected Units as well as recognizing two Outstanding employees in each facility. It's all about the Veteran! Thank You Brothers and Sisters for your service to this great nation!!

Operation: Helping Heroes was an Amazing Success!!! For a first year fledgling program, the state VFW Posts stepped up in a big way! I am so proud to be the State Surgeon for the state of Kansas!! You people are LEGENDS!!!

Dept of KS and Manhattan Voice of Democracy winner, Madelyn, is sponsored by Post and Aux 1786. Maddy was given a gift card from the Aux and Post to offset her expenses as she travels to Washington DC to represent the state of Kansas.
