A new MOTUS tower on our hilltop at the Ash Canyon Bird Sanctuary awaits the arriving spring migrants. Combined with our tower at Casa De San Pedro B & B De San Pedro B & B, any bird or bat fitted with a transmitter that comes up the San Pedro Valley between Bisbee and Miller peak should be recorded. Thanks to Jonathan Horst and our donors for making this possible.

Caution: This video contains either s*x or violence, I'm honestly not sure which. Thanks to sharp-eyed viewers of our explore.org camera, they were able to alert us to this interesting interaction between two Hog-nosed Skunks at 4:30 a.m. off the back porch at Ash Canyon Bird Sanctuary.

SABO is pleased to have joined Bat Conservation International and Borderlands Restoration Network @ on a project to increase agave populations within the range of nectar-feeding bats. This week a crew from Borderlands Restoration Network planted 300 agaves on the hillside overlooking the main sanctuary site. This is the hillside purchased last year thanks to our members and donors. It was heavily impacted by the 2011 Monument fire and is still recovering.
These agaves will provide nectar for our nectar-feeding bats that return every summer on their migration. Many people have enjoyed watching the bats on the explore.org we**am throughout October. Lest you think we have forgotten our roots, agaves are also among the favorite nectar sources for Plain-capped Starthroats and Lucifer Hummingbirds. If that was not enough reason to be planting agaves, read about the importance of these bats to Mexico’s tequila industry here: https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20251028-mexicos-tequila-future-depends-on-bats
