Safe Drives Save Lives: Make the End of Summer Memorable
Hercules, Calif. – Before the summer season winds down, The Hercules Police Department wants everyone to kick off their Labor Day festivities with safety at the forefront. Make the decision that saves lives. Choose safety every time you get behind the wheel and never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

To help keep our community safe, the Hercules Police Department will have additional officers on patrol Aug. 13 through Labor Day (Sept. 1) looking for drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. The additional efforts to prevent impaired driving are part of a national enforcement campaign, Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.

In addition to patrols, The Hercules Police Department will hold a DUI Checkpoint on August 21 from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.at an undisclosed location within the city of Hercules.

“Enjoying the last days of summer should be all about fun and that starts with making safe choices before making plans,” Officer Kirton of the Hercules Police Department said. “Everyone deserves to get home safely, and it starts with your everyday actions.”

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 11,904 people were killed in drunk-driving crashes in the U.S. in 2024 — that’s one person every 44 minutes.

Hercules Police Department offers the following tips to Go Safely:

• Plan Ahead: If you know you’ll be drinking, arrange for a designated sober driver, call a ride-sharing service, taxi or use public transportation.
• Buckle Up: Wearing a seatbelt is one of the simplest ways to protect yourself in the event of a crash.
• Stay Alert: Avoid distractions such as texting or eating while driving. Keep your focus on the road.
• Follow Speed Limits: Speeding reduces your reaction time and increases the severity of crashes.
• Watch for Pedestrians and Bicyclists: With more people enjoying outdoor activities, be extra vigilant and look out for people biking and walking.
• Take Breaks: If you’re traveling long distances, take regular breaks to rest and avoid fatigue.

While drunk driving is a significant traffic safety problem, driving while impaired is not just from alcohol. Prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications and cannabis products may also impair. If you plan on drinking or taking medications with a driving warning label, let someone who is sober drive. If you see someone who appears to be driving while impaired, call 9-1-1.

Hercules Police Department Detectives recently participated in a multi-agency operation hosted by Walnut Creek PD and the Contra Costa County Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, targeting adults who used social media to target children for s*xual exploitation.

During the operation, Hercules Police Department Detectives assisted in the arrest of a suspect after he traveled to Walnut Creek, believing he was meeting a child. The suspect now face charges including attempted lewd acts with a minor (PC 664/288(a)), contacting a minor to commit a s*x offense (PC 288.3(a)), and arranging to meet a minor for s*x (PC 288.4(b)).

The ICAC Task Force exists to identify predators before a real child is harmed, combining investigations, training, and victim support across our region. Operations like this one are the result of that collaborative multi-agency work. We'd like to thank all the involved officers for their tireless work and our allied agencies for their assistance.

🚨 MISSING PERSON ALERT 🚨

Attention Residents: Please help us locate Tito C. Montances, a 70-year-old male who was last seen on camera at approximately 1:30 PM near Pinole Shores.

Tito was observed in the area and appeared to be preparing to launch a green, single-rider canoe.

Tito is approximately 5’04”, weighs 180 lbs, and was last seen wearing a navy blue jacket, light-colored shorts, and black shoes. The last vehicle driven by Tito was located at 1 Tennent Ave, Pinole, CA.

We are actively working to bring Tito home safely and appreciate the community’s support. We ask residents near the shoreline and surrounding areas to remain alert and report any possible sightings of Tito or the canoe.

ARREST MADE IN 2025 SHOOTING INVESTIGATION
The Hercules Police Department has made an arrest in connection with an August 2025 shooting that endangered a local resident. On August 2, 2025, a man sitting in his parked vehicle near Bayfront Boulevard and Earnest Street was allegedly approached on foot by an armed suspect who concealed his face and opened fire, striking the victim's vehicle as he fled.
Through the diligent work of our Criminal Investigations Division — including Flock ALPR data, cellular records, surveillance video, and ballistic testing — detectives identified Daniel Glass as the primary suspect. On July 1, 2026, Glass was arrested on an attempted murder warrant with bail set at $1.4 million. The case has been forwarded to the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office for prosecution.
HPD is fully committed to solving crimes and holding accountable those who threaten our community. We extend our sincere gratitude to California Department of Corrections Parole, the FBI, and our neighboring agencies for their invaluable assistance.

We’re excited to announce that our newly renovated Police Department lobby is now open to the public following recent construction improvements. We would like to sincerely thank our community for its patience and understanding throughout the construction process, as well as the City Council for its support of this important project.

We also extend our appreciation to City staff for their hard work managing the project from start to finish. The lobby is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For assistance after hours, visitors can use the telephone located outside the lobby entrance, which connects directly to Dispatch for support.

The Hercules Police Department announced the arrest of 30-year-old Deyonne White of Oakland in connection with a multi-agency human trafficking operation. White was arrested during a U.S. Probation Office visit in San Francisco with assistance from the United States Marshals Service. He faces felony charges including human trafficking of a minor for commercial s*x, pimping and pandering, and witness intimidation, with bail set at $425,000. The arrest stems from Operation Cross Country, a federal operation conducted July 28, 2023, in partnership with the Contra Costa County Human Trafficking Task Force, FBI, Homeland Security Investigations, and Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office.

Report suspected human trafficking to the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-373-7888 (24/7), Hercules PD at (510) 724-1111, or text "HELP" to 233733. This investigation involved collaboration with the FBI, HSI, Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office, Contra Costa County Human Trafficking Task Force, U.S. Marshals Service, and Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office. The charges are allegations; White is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

On the evening of May 26, 2026, Hercules Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Bedford regarding a suspicious circumstance, where a resident reported hearing noises in her backyard and believed someone was attempting to break into her home.

Upon arrival, Officers observed two male suspects fleeing the front of the residence with bags in hand and entering a Lexus SUV, while a third suspect kicked through the rear fence and fled on foot down Canterbury. Despite efforts to box in the Lexus, the vehicle fled and led Officers on a pursuit. Unfortunately, the suspect vehicle was able to elude capture.

The third suspect, Armani Johnson, Richmond, was taken into custody and a portion of the stolen jewelry was recovered from his person and along his flight path. We extend our deepest gratitude to the fast-acting Officers whose courage, professionalism, and quick thinking led to this outcome.

As a reminder, residents can help protect their homes and loved ones by keeping all doors and windows locked — including sliding glass doors — ensuring exterior lighting is bright and functional, especially in backyards and entry points, considering motion-activated lights and security cameras as added deterrents, and trimming shrubbery near windows and doors to eliminate hiding spots. Good lighting and locked doors remain two of the most effective deterrents against residential burglary.

Seat Belt Safety Campaign Runs Through Memorial Day

Hercules, California – The Hercules Police Department reminds travelers to always buckle up and secure children in the right car seats when visiting friends and family.

This year’s Click It or Ticket campaign runs from May 18 to 31. During this time, the Hercules Police Department will have additional officers on patrol actively looking for drivers and passengers who are not wearing a seat belt. This includes vehicles where children are not secured in child safety seats or the right safety seats for their age.

“Our priority is protecting the people in our community. Wearing a seat belt or properly securing children in car seats or a booster seat [DS1.1]gives everyone a better chance of surviving a crash,” Traffic Officer Elijah Scholl said. “We want every trip – short or long – to end safely, so please buckle up, every time.”

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2023, 10,484 people killed in crashes in the U.S. were not wearing a seat belt. In California, there were 780 unrestrained people killed in crashes that same year, including 24 children. Additionally, unrestrained child fatalities in California increased by 4.3 percent from 2022 to 2023.

California law requires all children under 2 years old to ride in a rear-facing car seat, unless the child is 40 or more pounds or is 40 or more inches tall. Once a child reaches these milestones, all children under the age of 8 years are still required to be secured in a car seat or booster seat. Children under the age of 8 may not ride in the front seat unless the vehicle is not equipped with a rear, forward-facing seat. Children 8 and older, or who are at least 4 feet 9 inches tall, may be secured by a booster seat, but at a minimum must be wearing a properly fitted safety belt.

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to keep children in the proper rear or forward-facing seat as long as possible and use the “Five-Step Test” to determine if their child is big enough to safely use a seat belt without a booster seat.
