Heppner Volunteer Firefighters spent Monday evening learning about the benefits of firefighting foam. Even a small amount of foam can significantly increase the effectiveness of water.

Foam is used because it helps water pe*****te materials and reduces surface tension on Class A fuels. Class A fuels include common solid combustibles that leave embers, such as wood, paper, cloth, rubber, trash, and some plastics.

A big congratulations to the 2025 Heppner Fire Department Firefighter of the year, Lieutenant/ Training Officer Katilyn Zinter. Since she is the one who always reminds us to take pictures and for some reason she "forgot" to remind us this time, here are some pictures of Katilyn doing what she does best! Katilyn plays a very important role within the department. From keeping up on personnel records, to setting our annual training schedule, to making sure we don't run out of printer paper, she does it all. Thanks, Katilyn! Congratulations!
