Henrico Fire is pleased to announce the following promotions:
Lt. Amber Sampson Mitchell
Amber Sampson-Mitchell has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant and will serve as the lieutenant of public education. Lt. Sampson-Mitchell has been with Henrico County Fire for 7.5 years. During that time Lt. Sampson-Mitchell served previously at stations 19, 21, 13 and 11. While serving, she has been the facilitator of the Henrico Fire Summer Camps, Henrico Fire Middle School Fire Safety Program, a Hazmat Technician, A Nationally Registered Paramedic, Fire and Life Safety Educator, Fire Explorer Advisor and Mentor to 4th grade students at Harvie ES. Lt. Sampson Mitchell holds a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice with a concentration on criminology. She enjoys the fire service because “I enjoy being able to make an impact on my community, this job has allowed me to give back to the community that I grew up in.” She would like to give special thanks and dedicate this promotion to my family (Husband Firefighter Derek Mitchell) especially our two sons Derek Jr. and Blake, always remember to work hard, try your best and believe in yourself.
Lt. Larvell Mason
Larvell Mason has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant and will serve at station 11. Lieutenant Larvell Mason began his fire service career in 2012 after joining the United States Air Force. He spent eight years with the City of Petersburg prior to joining the Henrico Division of Fire in 2021 as a firefighter paramedic. Lt. Mason's previous assignments included stations 11 and 23. Lt. Mason holds a bachelor’s degree in Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness from Virginia Commonwealth University. He is also a graduate of the Virginia Fire Officers Academy, where he was awarded the Lt. Brad Clarke Leadership Award. Lieutenant Mason is a member of the budget committee, CPAT cadre, special events team and mayday cadre. He enjoys the fire service because, “(He gets to) be the hope for someone to ensure that better days are ahead in their worst moments.” He gives special thanks to his wife, Tiffany Mason, and twin children, Torin and Nova, for their continuous support.
Lt. Randy Stevens
Randy Stevens has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant and will serve at station 11. Lt. Stevens has 24 years with the Henrico County Division of Fire. During that time, Lt. Stevens has spent time as a special events firefighter, and he has also served at stations 7, 6, 16, 13, 4, 12 and 3. Lt. Stevens started his emergency services career as a combat medic in the Virginia Army National Guard. After finishing his training, he started to volunteer with Lakeside VRS and Chickahominy VFD. He started his career in the fire service by being hired by Petersburg Fire/Rescue & Emergency Services in 1999, where he served for two years before coming to Henrico. Throughout his career he has been an RSI provider and field training medic; he is also active with the Henrico Incident Management Team (Type 4) and the Central Virginia Incident Management Team (Type 3), having received certificates for Planning Section Chief, Operations Section Chief, and Resource Unit Leader. Lt. Stevens values most that in the fire service, the men and women you work with become family. He would like to thank his wife Aimee and daughters Hailey and Faith for their unwavering love and support through the years
