Hot and humid conditions are expected across Henderson County on Friday, with heat index values reaching up to 92 degrees.

Even temperatures that may not seem extreme can be dangerous early in the season, when our bodies are not yet fully acclimated to the heat.

Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Heat exhaustion can often be treated by moving to a cool place, drinking water, and cooling down. Heat stroke is a medical emergency—call 9-1-1 immediately.

🥤 Drink plenty of water
🏠 Take frequent breaks in air-conditioned or shaded areas
👕 Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing
☀️ Limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day
👶 Check on children, older adults, outdoor workers, and others who may be more vulnerable to heat-related illness

Take a moment to review the symptoms and share this information with friends and family.

Found a tick? 🔎 Proper removal can help reduce the risk of disease transmission.

Use fine-tipped tweezers to grasp the tick as close to the skin as possible and pull upward with steady, even pressure. Avoid twisting or jerking the tick.
After removal, clean the bite area and your hands with soap and water or rubbing alcohol.

If you develop a rash, fever, or flu-like symptoms within several weeks of a tick bite, contact your healthcare provider.

Save this post for your next hike, camping trip, or day outdoors.

Our Public Health staff came together today in support of Mental Health Awareness Month 💚

Mental health is an important part of overall health, and no one should feel alone in what they’re going through. This month is about encouraging conversations, reducing stigma, and reminding our community that support is available.

We’re proud to stand alongside community partners across Henderson County working to promote mental wellness, connection, and resilience.

Our Public Health staff volunteered with United Way of Henderson County Days of Caring today, spending the morning at Bullington Gardens spreading mulch along the fairy trail and around the book nook 🧤🪵

It was a beautiful day to give back alongside so many volunteers supporting organizations across Henderson County. We’re grateful to be part of a community that shows up for one another in big and small ways. Thank you to everyone who helped make Days of Caring possible. 💚

Happy National Nurses Week from Henderson County Public Health.

Public health nurses are there for some of life’s biggest moments and some of the everyday ones too.

They help care for students in our schools, support families through care management, respond to communicable diseases, provide immunizations and clinic services, and meet people where they are through outreach across our community.

Many of those moments happen quietly and behind the scenes, but their impact is felt every day throughout Henderson County.

To our public health nurses: thank you for the compassion, patience, knowledge, and care you bring to your work and to the people you serve.

We are grateful for you this week and every week.
