November 3rd: Daylight Saving Time ends.
You get an extra hour of sleep. I get killed on the highway.
Here's why:
When clocks "fall back," your evening commute happens at dusk—exactly when deer are most active.
The Facts:

Deer-vehicle collisions SPIKE 300% the week after DST ends
October-November = deer mating season (bucks are distracted, reckless)
1.5 million deer-vehicle collisions per year in the US
200 human deaths, 26,000 injuries annually
$10 billion in vehicle damage

Why this happens:

Deer move at dawn and dusk (crepuscular)
Your commute suddenly overlaps with their active hours
Rutting bucks chase does across roads without looking
You're driving in the dark, going too fast

What YOU can do:

Slow down at dusk (5-7 PM in November)
If you see one deer, expect 5 more (they travel in groups)
Don't swerve—brake firmly and stay in your lane
High beams in rural areas (see reflective eyes sooner)

I don't want to die. You don't want a totaled car.
Slow. Down.

THE REAL REASON WILDLIFE REHABBERS ASK YOU NOT TO FEED THAT BABY…

It’s not because we want to hog all the fun for ourselves, I promise. It’s because wild orphans aren’t typically healthy enough to digest food, when they are found.

Many are hypothermic. The body can’t even handle water when its core temperature is too low. All energy is going to crucial body functions in that state. If the body has to divert energy to digesting, - it will likely be fatal.

Many orphans are very dehydrated. Animals can’t digest properly when they are dehydrated. The body pulls water into the intestines to aid with digestion. If there isn’t any water to pull from, this could cause a domino affect of problems.

All wild baby animals require a specific diet and that diet generally isn’t available in local stores. Feeding the wrong formula could cause an upset stomach or worse.

All baby animals need specific amounts of formula calculated by their body weight. The percentage differs depending on the species.

Not every animal can drink from a bottle. The correct instrument must be used to prevent aspiration and over feeding.
Bring us a thin, dehydrated, hypothermic animal and we can probably save it. Feed that same animal before you bring it to us…there’s likely nothing we can do to bring it back.

So PLEASE, don’t feed any wild orphans that you have found this baby season. Keeping them warm is a huge help until you find a licensed wildlife rehabilitator.

New intake Harbor ! I have been sick with the flu (blehhh) and haven’t been posting lately but have gotten several new intakes. Harbor came in with 4 other siblings that were found one by one starving and climbing down from their nest desperately looking for help because they were so very hungry. Generally when babies are found we try to reunite with mom as she is always best. They look cute but require a lot of work to rehab feed and reintroduce properly back to the wild.

This case they were desperate because something had happened to mom. They needed intervene and Carol (sweet caller that made sure we got them all and got them to me first with Harbor- who she named, then came the other 4 the next day !!!! ) had made sure they got care quickly. Even though she really loved little Harbor she knew he needed help. That’s where I took over !

As you see he’s doing really well. He is still sweet but his siblings are already getting wild with me lol and they don’t stay still very easy for pictures and get mad at anything but their formula coming at their face 😂😂 Will upload more photos soon ! But wanted to highlight the little guy that came to me first and how awesome Carol was in getting them to me and donating to our rehab ! We appreciate you !!!!

Hopefully I’ll start feeling better soon because ugh this is kicking my butt ! Flu 😷 sucks ! But I so love my squirrlies!

From found injured to time for release 🙌🏻♥️

Hi everyone, I am posting a video and I apologize for the video quality as I was filming it myself this is a video of a yellow bellied sap sucker that was brought to me post hurricane Helene. He was found due to him hitting a window & the woman who I was able to get in contact with a placed him in a box for safety and kept him nice and warm and got him to me right away. This is critical when birds have gotten injured and need rehabilitation. Please don’t feed them anything or give them water as I could do further damage, she followed instructions impeccably, and she was very kind and wonderful and met me and got him to me so I could evaluate him and get him what he needed …so a yellow bellied sapsucker is a migratory bird and it’s a migratory bird that is protected on the migratory bird species list. Most people know this bird as a type of woodpecker, and some people even describe them as a nuisance bird however, they are very beneficial to our flora and our deciduous trees here by ridding them of bugs that destroy the trees from within, they also feed off of sap, but they’re very beneficial to our ecology and our world. I believe that every living creature deserves to have a chance at living its best life and that’s why I think I was put on this earth to do these type of things, but I can’t do them alone and I haven’t done them alone. I’ve learned from some of the best along the ways from Veterinarian’s & friends colleagues and especially Kris Porter with Owls Nest Sanctuary for Wildlife she has shown me truly so much and I’m so grateful for her guidance. I also can’t do this without all of you so if you do see this video please, if you’re able to share my Amazon wish list or my Zelle information. I will also get Venmo up and running that’s newer to me but anything you can share or donate is so greatly appreciated. Those have all already donated already know the cause and how much this means to me and also I’m so grateful you all are animal lovers and with me on this journey! I believe my town needs a wildlife sanctuary where people can come bring animals that they have found to get help and we can get them back to where they belong in nature. So please if you see this video you can share it or you can share my donation buttons or you can just also do what you can out in the world when you find Wildlife and make sure we are saving and doing as much as we can. They are the voiceless they are the ones that need our help. They need caring loving individuals who truly want to do the right thing so thank you from the bottom of my heart for watching the video. Thank you for believing in me. I have to say in this case I am extremely proud of myself which I usually don’t say, but I really am this time and I’m grateful for people trusting me and believing in me again thank you
