John spent more than two decades as a pilot in the US Air Force. His responsibilities included flying reconnaissance missions and later piloting the plane for multiple government officials, including two presidents. He has lived in the area for 26 years and served as a city commissioner in Saluda.

Now John is running against Republican Jake Johnson to represent the people of NC District 113. We're especially grateful to him for stepping up to the plate after the original candidate could not continue his campaign. Of course, this is not surprising since John has spent his life serving his country and his community.

WE NEED YOU! HCDP will have ongoing canvassing opportunities on Tuesdays, starting at 3:30, and on Saturdays, starting at 1:00. Meet at our offices at 2024F Asheville Highway in Hendersonville.

WHY? Here's what our 1st Vice Chair says about meeting voters face to face: "We've been working since April on reaching out to voters through canvassing. We're knocking on doors and asking people what they care about. It's step one in building relationships and trust in our party that will result in people coming out to vote in November. Success comes down to numbers. The more people we reach, the more people who will vote. Precinct leaders are organizing door-knocking in precincts that have never been canvassed. Our canvassers say the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Folks are thanking us for asking for their opinions. Let's keep up the energy!"

We had a wonderful day at Henderson County’s PRIDE celebration! It is heartening to see our community turn out strong for love and joy and belonging. Thanks to all our volunteers and the police who made sure things ran smoothly. Let’s keep showing up for one another! 🌈

Our upcoming Coffee Break (June 9 starting at 9:30 a.m. at HCDP headquarters) will feature Maggie Gilliam, Pathfinders Program Director. The Henderson County Pathfinders Program was created to support the growth and success of students in Henderson County Public Schools. Pathfinders connects middle and high school students with dedicated community mentors who provide consistent, individualized support, helping students build confidence, set goals, and navigate their path to the future.

The Pathfinders model features one-to-one mentorship through middle and high school, strong relationships that inspire growth and resilience, & a community-driven approach to student success.

Join us to learn how you can make a meaningful impact, whether by becoming a mentor, supporting the program, or simply spreading the word.
