Ironic the current council wants to relocate some of the contents of Boyd park (& then demolish) to Edwards Park - when it was Mayor Edwards who presided over the establishment and intended indefinite preservation of Boyd Park in 1936...

Originally, a lease btwn HCSB & City of Hendersonville w the Chamber
"...It is further understood and agreed that the said lessees shall at all times during the term of this lease maintain the said park in good, clean and attractive condition. It is further understood that said park shall be free and open to the public generally without admission except that the lessees may if it seems to them desirable, charge nominal fees for those who make : use of tennis, bowling alleys or other game or' athletic privileges conducted in said park, but admission fees or charges for same shall not be more than is necessary to defray the expense of maintaining and supervising tennis courts, bowling alleys, or other places for the playing of games. It is further understood and agreed that said lessees shall not for any purpose nor for any consideration sublet any portion of the said plot of land to any corporation, firm or individual for the purpose of operation any sort of merchandising business or entertainment business, or for any pur-pose whatsoever. Ham, President99April 9, 1936, (Continued) WHERE AS the following lease between the City School Trustees, the City of Hendersonville, and the Hendersonville Chamber of Commerce of date April 6, 1936, has been submitted to the City for approval and ex*****on; and whereas, the Board of Commissioners is of the opinion that the interests of the Cityof Hendersonville will be materially promoted by the development and maintenance of the park there in described and referred to:It is therefore on motion of Commissioner Geiger, seconded by Commissioner Foster, Ordered that said agreement be and the same is hereby approved and accepted by the City, and that the Mayor and City Clerk be and they are hereby authorized and directed to execute said agreement for and on behalf of said City. It is further ordered that the Building and Grounds Committee of the City shall represent the City in all matters connected with the proper development, maintenance and beautification of said park, as well also as in all matters pertaining to its management, except as to such matters that may re-quire the action of the Board of City Commissioners, and said committee shall at all times be subject to the supervision and direction of said Board of Commissioners. That this lease is hereby approved subject to this provision in the " same manner and to the same extent as said lease would have been sub-jectt here to had this provision been incorporated therein.It is further ordered that this Board for and on behalf of its members and of the City, express its most grateful appreciation to the donor for the sum contributed for the development and improvement of said park and that such appreciation may ever be manifested by its proper care, management and preservation. It is further ordered that a copy of this resolution be certified by the Clerk of this Board to the Chamber of Commerce, and a copy to the Board of School Trustees.
