What an absolutely incredible day at Davis-Royster Funeral Service's 2nd Annual Community Day! ❤️
I want to extend my sincere appreciation to Paul, Phylicia, and the entire staff of Davis-Royster Funeral Service for hosting such a beautiful event. It was truly a day filled with smiling faces, laughter, fellowship, community engagement, and so much more.
And I have to say—the cheeseburgers were amazing! 🍔😊
I am also deeply grateful for the lasting legacy of Mary Davis Royster and her husband. Although they have passed on, their spirit of compassion, service, and love for this community was felt throughout the entire event. Their commitment to caring for others continues to inspire generations, and their legacy lives on through the incredible work of Davis-Royster Funeral Service.
A special thank you to CJ Turrentine, Davis Chapel, and everyone who volunteered, participated, and helped make this day such a tremendous success. Every smile, every conversation, and every act of kindness made a difference.
I thank God for allowing me to be a part of such an amazing community. Henderson is more than a city—it is a family. I am truly honored to serve as your Mayor, and I look forward to continuing to celebrate the people and organizations that make our city so special.
With gratitude,
Mayor Melissa Elliott

Today was another reminder that partnerships truly change lives.
As Mayor of the City of Henderson and Director of Rural Engagement & Partnerships, I am incredibly grateful to help steward the partnership between Gang Free Inc. and the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina. Together, we are helping ensure that families across Vance, Warren, and Granville Counties have access to nutritious food and hope.
Food insecurity is real. Vance County is recognized as a food desert, making this work more than a food distribution—it is a lifeline for many of our neighbors.
Today, we didn't just distribute food—we shared love, hugs, encouragement, and prayer. I also educated community members about Cyclosporiasis, a foodborne illness, by sharing prevention tips and safe food handling practices to help protect the health of our families. Education is just as important as access to healthy food.
A heartfelt thank you to CJ Turrentine, Mike Mike, Mrs. Mary, and one of my biggest supporters, who faithfully delivers food to her clients as a proxy. Thank you to every volunteer who continues to serve with compassion and dedication.
Great things are happening in the City of Henderson. Together, we are feeding families, improving health, and strengthening our community—one act of service at a time.

Sometimes the sweetest moments are the ones you never plan. 💖
My granddaughter, Ulyssa, looked at me after the movie and said, "MiMi, we didn't sing Happy Birthday to Karina."
The next thing I knew, she came downstairs dressed in her princess gown and said, "Let's go get her a cake, MiMi, so we can sing Happy Birthday!"
I laughed and said, "Ulyssa, Karina's birthday is tomorrow."
Without missing a beat, she smiled and replied, "MiMi, she can have a pre-birthday celebration!"
So...guess what we did? 🎂👑✨
HAPPY PRE-BIRTHDAY, KARINA! 🎉🎈🎁
Children have the biggest hearts and remind us that every reason is a good reason to celebrate the people we love. ❤️

Another successful Movie with the Mayor is in the books! 🍿💙
Minions & Monsters brought together so many amazing children and families afternoon filled with laughter, smiles, and unforgettable memories. Seeing our young people having fun in a safe, positive environment reminds us why investing in our children is one of the greatest investments we can make.
Thank you to every parent, guardian, volunteer, and community partner who helped make this event a success. Together, we're building a stronger, healthier Henderson—one child, one family, and one smile at a time.
Because our children deserve opportunities to laugh, learn, and thrive.

Yesterday was truly amazing spending time with my brother, Mayor Leonardo , in the Bull City, ensuring seniors had access to fresh produce and milk; as Director of Partnerships for Rural Engagement at NCCU BBRI , I cherish opportunities to share resources and be part of the solution to combat food insecurity; one thing that resonated deeply was hearing seniors express concerns about affordability of fresh fruits and vegetables, yet seeing hope light up their faces as our team, led by my colleague Leatrice, distributed every bag of potatoes and every watermelon with a touch of humanity.

📣 Henderson-Vance, we want to hear from YOU!

What matters most to you about our community?

We're launching the Henderson-Vance Community Voice Survey to better understand the issues residents care about most. Whether your priority is creating jobs, improving public safety, supporting our schools, revitalizing downtown, expanding youth opportunities, or something else entirely, your voice deserves to be heard.

This short survey takes less than 2 minutes to complete.

The results will help identify the community's top priorities, and we'll share those results publicly. Even more importantly, we'll provide ongoing updates so residents can follow progress on the issues that matter most and learn about opportunities to stay engaged.

This gives us an opportunity to build community and make sure the voices of Henderson-Vance residents help shape the conversations about our future.

📝 Take the survey here: https://bit.ly/4wgtUCw

Please complete the survey and share this post with your friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers. The more voices we hear, the better we can understand what matters most to our community.

Your voice. Your priorities. Our community.

This survey will close on FRIDAY, JULY 31, 2026
