Looking for a fun and meaningful way to spend time with your little one this summer? Join us for Readers in Training (RIT) Playgroups — interactive early literacy experiences designed to spark imagination, encourage learning, and help children build a love of books from the very beginning. 📚✨

Perfect for children ages birth to five and their caregivers, each playgroup features engaging read-alouds, music, movement, and hands-on activities in a welcoming environment for families to learn and grow together.

Make a lasting impact by mentoring a struggling reader through Spread the Word Nevada’s Books & Buddies program. Mentors provide encouragement, consistency, and support to help children build confidence and a love of reading.

No teaching experience required, just patience, positivity, and a passion for books. Mentoring takes place at five elementary schools across the Las Vegas valley.

Mentor Requirements:
✅ Attend a one-time orientation
✅ Commit at least 1 hour per week
✅ Be at least 16 years old
✅ Background check

June Mentor Orientation Dates:

June 2, 2026 at 1:00 PM
June 10, 2026 at 10:00 AM
June 25, 2026 at 10:00 AM
June 30, 2026 at 1:00 PM

School’s out, and we’re giving this year an A+! 📚🎓

Together, we distributed 70,000 books each month, led 126 Breakfast/Snacktime with Books sessions, and mentored 328 students through our Books & Buddies program. Talk about making the honor roll!

We couldn’t have done it without our incredible school staff and faculty, who always pass the test when it comes to supporting students and welcoming our team with open arms. They say it takes a village, and this year proved our community deserves straight A’s for showing up for Nevada’s kids.

Happy Spread the Word Nevada Day!

The City of Las Vegas Government officially proclaimed May 20, 2026, as Spread the Word Nevada Day in recognition of the organization’s 25 years of advancing childhood literacy across Nevada. The proclamation honors Spread the Word Nevada’s lasting impact through book distributions, reading mentorship, family engagement, and early literacy programs that have helped more than 1.5 million children build home libraries, strengthen reading skills, and foster a lifelong love of reading.

What if every family in Southern Nevada had access to free books? That question has guided us for months, and we're excited to finally answer: our newly renovated Community Book Nook!

This summer, families across Southern Nevada are invited to discover the joy of reading by browsing hundreds of FREE gently used age-appropriate books for children and teens ages 18 and under. Whether you're starting your home library or adding to a growing collection, there's something for every child in your household.
