A police officer from England was vacationing in Nashville when he spotted an officer fighting with a suspect who was trying to take his gun. The off-duty officer immediately jumped in to help — a powerful reminder that courage and duty can transcend borders and oceans.

Thank you to the officer from across the pond who jumped in to help, and may both officers stay safe. 🇬🇧💙🇺🇸

More than 17,000 people were under evacuation orders in southern California on Tuesday as a wildfire threatened suburban homes.

The wind-driven Sandy fire was reported on Monday in the hills above Simi Valley, about 30 miles (48km) north-west of Los Angeles.

About 750 firefighters had been assigned to the fire by Tuesday, along with helicopters and air tankers, according to the Ventura County Star. The fire has destroyed at least one home.

The fire was 5% contained by midday on Tuesday. The cause is under investigation.

To all the firefighters who are working around the clock to fight the Sandy fire, please stay safe. ❤️🚒

Her father was an NYPD officer who passed away when she was just 4 years old.

When prom night came, she took his uniform and had it turned into her dress. Badge still on the chest. His name still on the tag - J. Thompson.

She walked into that room wearing everything he left behind.

He never made it to that night.

But his name did.
