Transitions of power are an essential component of Democracy. As much as I loved being Town Clerk in the country's largest township, I understand that a changing of the guard is part of the electoral process.

I wish Town Clerk-Elect Kate Murray all the best going forward. I am confident that she will build on the innovations that my administration implemented over the past 2 years. This is a wonderful office that offers many beneficial services to the public. Clerk-Elect Murray is an experienced leader and the Town Clerk staff is incredibly professional and efficient. I look forward to hearing about the many great things to come out of the Clerk's office in the months and years ahead.

On Halloween the Town of Hempstead wedding chapel was transformed into a house of ghouls, goblins and warewolves. I was thrilled to conduct some truly spectacular Halloween-themed wedding ceremonies . I want to thank all the loving couples who definitely weren't too scared to say "I do." I also want to thank my incredible Marriage Department staff for making these ceremonies so festive and fun.

I had a scary good time at the Franklin Square Senior Center's Halloween Party. Seniors came dressed in some wonderfully creative costumes and we all enjoyed the spooky festivities. “How far that little candle throws his beams - so shines a good deed in a weary world.”

Congratulations to all the winners at our 2019 Make a Difference Award Ceremony. So many town residents with inspiring stories of kindness and sacrifice! I am delighted that we continue to honor those people in our community who put others before self and work tirelessly to have a positive impact on our region. Each small candle lights the dark and each humanitarian act of selflessness makes a difference. Absolutely thrilled that Matthew Spirakis, the son of my former classmate Spiro Spirakis, was one of the award recipients.
