Veteran Research Study This is a page dedicated to recruiting participants for a paid research study aimed at better understanding military sexual trauma (MST).

This study is being conducted by a Ph.D. student, Kayla Costello, M.A., at Hofstra University as part of a dissertation.

This study is led by Kayla Costello, M.A. under the guidance of Dr. Mitchell Schare at Hofstra University. This is an IRB approved study and all elements of informed consent are a part of the study for this who qualify after taking the pre-screener survey.

We are looking for female service members or veterans to participate in research aimed at developing a greater understanding of their social and sexual experiences. As a part of this, we are also interested in understanding more about traumatic events women may have experienced while in the military.

If you are interested in participating in this research please email me ([email protected]) to complete the pre-screener survey which consists of 6 questions. If you qualify, you will be eligible to take a longer online survey (approximately 30 minutes long) for $6 compensation in the form of an Amazon gift card. No identifying information will be collected other than demographic information and an email address to receive the link for the online survey.

To help combat sexual assault in the military, research needs to be done. Participating in research helps fellow service members by promoting growth and understanding through research findings.

Sexual minorities in the U.S. military represent about 12 percent of the active-duty population. But they account for an estimated 43 percent of those who are sexually assaulted. This raises critical questions for the Pentagon as it tries to reduce the 20,000 sexual assaults in the ranks each year.
