It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the City of Hemphill announces the passing of long-time Mayor Robert Hamilton, who died on May 19, 2026. Mayor Hamilton dedicated many years of his life to public service, serving the residents of the City of Hemphill as mayor from 1992-2024 leaving a lasting mark on our community. Our deepest sympathies, thoughts, and prayers are with his family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. Information regarding funeral arrangements can be found below.

A truck ran into and damaged an electrical power pole near BOM Bank. The crew is out working to repair it and estimate that somewhere around 7 or 8 pm tonight they will have to cut power to finish repairs. This will have power down for a couple of hours from Doches Credit Union to BOM Bank, and from BOM Bank down HWY 87 to the city limits. We apologize for any inconvenience and will work to minimize the down time. Thank you.
