In the last school board election, the top challenger to the incumbents was 51 votes behind the incumbents' lowest vote-getter. This time, the top previously elected incumbent was 327 votes behind our lowest vote-getting challenger from Saucon Choices for Change. This wasn't a close election compared to other recent Saucon school board races. We had about a 2% or larger margin of victory for all our candidates.

Saucon Choices for Change (Viv Demko, Jay Santos, Don Carpenter, and I) can now declare victory in the race for Saucon Valley school board!

Out of respect for voters, we were waiting until the paper ballots were scanned. We’ve retained commanding leads over our opponents, it turns out.

We want to thank our many supporters in Saucon Valley for voting for change. We had less campaign money than our opponents, but we had dozens of grassroots helpers—particularly, teachers—who made our campaign organized, creative, and smart.

It would be hard to overstate how hard so many people worked to bring our message of change to voters. Thank you all!

We also want to express our heartfelt gratitude to our formidable incumbent opponents Susan Baxter, Bryan Eichfeld, Mike Karabin, and retired Col. Shawn Welch for their dedicated public service to Saucon Valley school district and its school children.

Susan and Mike have given 30 years of service to the district without compensation while facing countless difficult challenges. Bryan has been a passionate advocate for conservatism, fiscal restraint, and language education, and Shawn shared a lifetime of experience in logistics with the district. While we may all differ in our visions for Saucon’s future and in policy ideas, we honor the incumbents' innumerable efforts to make our schools and community better, and we will work hard to build on their positive achievements.

Most of all, we want humbly to thank the citizens of Saucon who have entrusted us with the awesome duty of helping to govern their schools. It is great privilege and responsibility, and we will strive to honor your trust in us by providing superb public education in Saucon.

Respectfully,

Bill Broun, Donald Carpenter, Viv Demko, and Jay Santos

We think we’ve won the race for Saucon Valley school board, according to the latest available unofficial counts from Northampton County’s Election Office.

We say “think” because a sizable number of paper ballots have yet to be counted. Those ballots were needed for voters when the county’s voting machines went down for a couple hours yesterday morning. Out of respect for voters, we will wait until those ballots are tallied to declare victory, but we have commanding margins over our opponents, and we think we're most likely to win.

In the meantime, we want to thank our many supporters in Saucon Valley for voting for change. We had less campaign money than our opponents, but we had dozens of grassroots helpers—particularly, teachers—who made our campaign organized, creative, and smart.

❗️ UPDATE: The slate of five incumbent candidates submitted a collective response to our questions after Monday's deadline. We have chosen to update this article with them because we believe our readers deserve to hear what all the candidates have to say before they cast their ballots in this important local election.

🍎 Saucon Source recently asked the nine candidates running for five seats on the Saucon Valley School District Board of Directors to answer the same questions, to help our readers be better informed about this important local race. 📲 https://tinyurl.com/mwzhpv33

The Morning Call published the Lehigh and Northampton Counties' Voters' Guide today. None of the Northampton County candidates were asked to submit information for this publication. The guide is prepared in cooperation with The League of Women Voters, but unfortunately, the Northampton County Chapter is no longer in existence.

Latest from US News on Saucon Valley School District. That news isn't good. It's getting scary, folks.

Our elementary-school mathematics proficiency is 54%! Lower than Wilson Area district (63%), which has double the number of students on free lunches, and far lower than Southern Lehigh district (72%). Not good enough.

Sky-high local taxes. Terrible test scores. Staff morale at rock bottom. Wasteful lawsuits and distracting controversies. Bogus parent surveys to paper over it all.

How did it all go so wrong? It's time for change!

It's not about party or who you voted for for president. It's about better, sensible, drama-free leadership and academic excellence.

Please vote Nov. 7 for Bill Broun, Donald Carpenter, Viv Demko, and Jay Santos. (Screen-grab, USNews.com)
