This Mother’s Day, as we honor moms and all the many ways motherhood shows up in our lives, we also want to recognize that May is Maternal Mental Health Month.
Motherhood can be joyful, loving, and deeply meaningful - but it can also be messy, overwhelming, and hard. One in five pregnant or postpartum people experiences a diagnosed mood or anxiety disorder, making depression the most common complication related to childbearing. These perinatal mental health conditions can impact the health and wellbeing of parents, infants, and entire families.
By investing in training and workforce development, we can better support Montana moms and babies, helping ensure the strongest possible start for our youngest residents.
Happy Mother’s Day, and if you’d like to learn more about how to support moms and maternal mental health in Montana, visit hmhb-mt.org.
