It is Good Roads Day! Established by the Montana Legislature in 1947, Montanans are asked to contribute toward the improvement and safety of public highways. MDT Director Chris Dorrington says that today “is an opportunity for us all to recognize the hard work that our MDT team and partners do to ensure safe travel and efficient movement of people and commerce.”
Let us know in the comments: what do good roads mean to you?

School is officially OUT for summer! While the kids are enjoying the break, it’s a great time to teach them about being a 'Drain Ranger' in our community.
Before you head out to the lake, take a few minutes to help protect our local watersheds:
🚮Pick up litter: Grab any loose trash in your yard or neighborhood so it doesn't wash into the storm drains during summer thunderstorms.
🧼Car Wash Party?: If you're washing the car at home, do it on the grass so the soil can filter the soapy water, or head to a commercial car wash that recycles its water!
🐕💩Pet Cleanup: Remind the kids that picking up after the family dog prevents harmful bacteria from reaching our favorite swimming holes.
Let’s keep Montana’s water pristine all summer long!

⚠️Missoula – MDT and Pavement Maintenance Services Inc. will begin applying a seal and cover (chip seal) at eight sites the week of June 15, weather and unforeseen factors permitting. During application there will be temporary disruptions to driveways and other access points. When fresh chip seal oil is applied to the street in front of an access point, that access point cannot be used for approximately 30 minutes.

On-street parking will also be temporarily disrupted. To avoid towing, all vehicles parked on the streets within work zones will need to be moved prior to construction.

Chip seal work is expected to take a few days to complete, with temporary pavement markings being applied over the weekend, July 19 to 21. After temporary paint has been applied, construction will pause until late July when crews are expected to return to apply the permanent pavement markings.
