29 years ago today, May 8 1997, lives of members of this department, families of this community were forever altered. A day that we will not forget here in Helena-West Helena. We pay our respects to fallen heroes: Captain Stuart Warren, Lt. Edward “Bo” Hudson, and FF. Reginald Robinson.

WEST HELENA, Arkansas (CNN) -- Three firefighters died fighting a raging fire as a plume of black, "very toxic" smoke covered this small Mississippi River town, forcing hundreds of people to leave their homes and businesses.

Around 2:45 this morning. HWHFD crews responded mutual aid to a reported commercial structure fire in Lexa. Crews worked with Barton-Lexa Volunteer Fire Department to contain this fire to just one part of the large warehouse, most locals know as the old screwdriver factory.

C-Shift stations 1&2 representing the HWHFD today at Central High School. Central is hosting an Autism Awareness Fair today from 10-1.

It’s been a busy Saturday morning for the HWHFD. At approx 5:20 am crews responded mutual aid to a reported fire at Lakeview Estates apartments. Just after making scene Station 2 was dispatched to a house fire on N 8th st as well. All crews were back in service just after shift change this morning. Great work by all crews on both scenes. Shoutout to off duty Captain Demond Franklin, who was able to keep the fire in lakeview knocked back until responding units were able to make scene.

Crews are on scene of a structure fire on the 100 block of Oakland. In the area of Helendale. Please avoid this area as crews work. All lanes coming into Helena on Oakland are blocked for the next couple hours.

HWHFD responded to a structure fire tonight in the area of Porter st in West Helena. All units are back in service at this time.
