The partnership between parents and our school district is of utmost importance. It promotes transparency, accountability & improvement. Parents discovered & brought to our attention this week inappropriate books made available and even recommended to students. Books of a pornographic nature like “Gender Queer”, are unsuitable for minors and have no place in our schools. We are in the process of identifying and removing such vulgar material and will also review local policy relating to literature made available going forward.

Over the weekend, the Raider Nation sign was vandalized at Northbrook High School. The booster club paid over $1,000 and spent a significant amount of man hours putting it together. Let’s make the booster club whole and if you can, contribute to the GoFundMe to replace their sign.

Turnout at our special meeting on Monday was impressive for relatively short notice in late July. I am encouraged by the passion demonstrated by our community on behalf of the children of our district. Since the meeting, I have been asked many times what my position is on the lawsuit.

I strongly oppose the adoption of single-member districts (SMDs), in any form, within Spring Branch ISD. Adoption of SMDs would fracture and divide our district permanently.

I have sought the counsel and opinion of other trustees across the state, current and former members of the state board of education, and attorneys who unanimously describe the inevitable outcome of SMDs as tribal and territorial leading to infighting, division, and inefficiency. We now, more than ever, need our collective spirit and collective greatness to continue to provide an amazing education to ALL children in our district.

I look forward to being a part of a vigorous defense of our great district and appreciate your support.

My opponent in the SBISD Board election, Virginia Elizondo, has filed a federal lawsuit against the school district (link below), myself and each member of the board.

Despite record turnout and vote totals for both candidates, Elizondo alleged that our election system “deprived tens of thousands of minority voters in SBISD of their voting rights guaranteed by law.”

Elizondo’s stated goal is to force SBISD into single-member districts, just like HISD, where trustees represent a section of the district.

SBISD is currently an at-large district which means we as citizens get to vote for all of the 7 school board positions and those elected must consider all students as they weigh decisions.
