Sheriff appointed to serve on two boards

June 9, 2026
Cleburne County Sheriff Chris Brown was appointed last week to serve as the Sergeant at Arms on the Sheriff’s Association Executive Board. The appointment came during the summer Sheriff’s Association Conference held in Fort Smith.

Sheriff Brown was also appointed this week to serve on the Criminal Justice Institute Advisory Board. He has previously served two separate terms on the CJI Advisory Board, and he is looking forward to serving Arkansas Law Enforcement through one of the premier training avenues available to LEOs through the state.

Happy National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week from Cleburne County 911! 🎧 📞

Today, we recognize not only our team, but all 911 dispatchers everywhere. The calm in the chaos and the voices people rely on in critical moments.

Our dispatchers operate for the whole county dispatching police, fire, & EMS. Like answering calls, run radios, and manage the UNEXPECTED with professionalism and quick thinking (to name a few)…all while making it look easier than it really is.

They’re the link between the public and responders, and the steady voice when it matters most, even on the shifts where nothing goes as planned (which is more often than not).

We’re proud of everything they manage to do daily! We also appreciate them also having a sense of humor they bring to calls when needed, because sometimes, you just have to laugh when the unexpected happens. 💛🖤🤍

***Public Service Announcement***

The Sheriff's Office (and most all other law enforcement agencies) does not call or text you to inform you that you've missed court, jury duty, or failed to make a fine payment or traffic ticket payment. Scammers often use calls like this, along with bullying and fear tactics to convince you to send them money. These are scams almost 100% of the time. If you receive a phone call or a text from someone claiming to be law enforcement and asking for money, ask their name and which agency they're with, hang the phone up, locate the agency phone number on Google, call the agency and ask them to verify the information. The picture below is an example of a common scam text currently circulating. Other ways to identify a scam phone call are:

The "officer" demanding that you don't involve anyone else in the phone call

Demanding immediate payment over the phone to avoid someone coming to your house to arrest you

Transferring your call to their supervisor for negotiation or verification

Encouraging you to drive to your local agency to verify the validity of the call but then requiring payment over the phone from the parking lot (yes it really happens)

As always, if you think its a scam, hang up and call your local agency to verify. We rarely call anyone over issues like the above unless it has been discussed with you in person first. These scammers are convincing, aggressive, and well practiced in how they speak. Stay safe out there folks!

Sheriff’s Office Reminds Community of S*x Offender Registry and Shares Safety Tips

The Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our community. As part of our ongoing public safety efforts, we would like to remind residents about the importance and accessibility of the s*x offender registry list.

S*x Offender Registry: What You Need to Know

The s*x offender registry provides information to the public about individuals convicted of certain s*xual offenses who reside, work, or attend school in our county. This resource is designed to keep citizens informed and empowered to take precautions for themselves and their families.

Residents can access the local, state, and national registries online at the official Sheriff’s Office website, www.cleburneso.org or visit our office for assistance in obtaining information. The registry is updated regularly to ensure accuracy and transparency.

Safety Tips for Families and Individuals
• Check the Registry: Regularly review the s*x offender registry to stay informed about offenders in your area.
• Talk to Your Children: Have open, age-appropriate conversations with your children about safety, boundaries, and what to do if they feel uncomfortable.
• Be Aware of Your Surroundings: Teach children to be cautious when approached by strangers and to report any suspicious activity immediately.
• Supervise Play: Whenever possible, supervise children while they play outdoors or participate in community activities.
• Use Technology Safely: Monitor your children’s use of the internet and social media, and remind them never to share personal information online.
• Report Concerns: If you observe any suspicious behavior or have concerns about an individual in your neighborhood, contact the Sheriff’s Office immediately.

The Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office encourages all residents to utilize the registry and practice these safety tips. If you have questions or need assistance, please contact us at (501) 362-8143 or visit our website at www.cleburneso.org.

Together, we can keep our community safe and informed.
