Licking County 911

Licking County 911 LCRCC is comprised of more than 40 dispatchers who protect a population of over 204K in 786 square miles of Licking and surrounding counties in Central Ohio.

1978 – There were 3 primary lines – 915 rang to Newark Fire, 919 Rang for County Fire and 912 rang to Newark Police.

1985 – 911 became available for the County as a whole.

1988 – The first 9-1-1 plan was adopted to provide service throughout Licking County. In 1999, an addendum was passed by the 9-1-1 Planning Committee to provide Wireless Enhanced 9-1-1 service in Licking County. June of 1990 –

Enhanced 911 became available. This meant telecommunicators were able to identify the phone number and address of the landline in which the caller was calling from. Newark Fire Department answered all 911 calls at this time. September 1, 1991 – 911 services moved to Licking County Government at 65 E Main St.

1999 – An addendum was passed by the 9-1-1 Planning Committee to provide Wireless Enhanced 9-1-1 service in Licking County.

2000 – Phase 1 Wireless 911 calls were accepted. This means the telecommunicators were able to see the address of the cell phone tower used when the wireless caller placed a 911 call.

2012 – The renovation of an existing building began to construct a new 911 Center.

2014 – The new 911 Center was open with a brand new CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) system, phone and radio systems and dispatcher consoles. This upgraded from the old 911 Center’s 5 positions to 14 positions. These new systems made Licking County one of the most state of the art 911 Centers in the State of Ohio. The new 911 Center was named LCRCC (Licking County Regional Communications Center).

2020 – After the state building being occupied by LCRCC in Newark was condemned due to a developing sinkhole, LCRCC was moved to a new state of the art facility with 22 positions at the Central Ohio Aerospace and Technology Center, hosted by the Heath-Newark-Licking County Port Authority. LCRCC would go on to aquire the first contract for dispatching outside of the county from Thorn Township Fire Department.

2021 – In partner with Licking County Sheriff's Office, LCRCC brought online a new computer aided dispatch system, that would enable mobile connections to the majority of patrol cars and fire/EMS apparatus. This allows field units to be tracked by GPS, in addition to instantaneous information and data sharing about responses, records, and mapping. All local Licking County agencies are now on the same system, with the exception of New Albany PD, Reynoldsburg PD, and state agencies.

Very lucky to have Dispatcher Howard as part of the team! Thank you to The Reporting Project at Denison for advocating for the federal reclassification to increase continued professional training, retention, and mental health support for public safety telecommunicators.

Despite the unrelenting, high-intensity nature of 911 call-taking, emergency dispatchers are currently classified by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics as “Office and Administrative Support Occupations.”

This week is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. The integral work these professionals do every single day is often only noticed during your time of need. This week is set aside to recognize these unsung heroes of our community. So while you're picking up a pizza, going to the grocery store, walking the dog, attending school events, or just chilling at home with family, know that this crew has your back. They are responding to calls for help, delivering babies, instructing CPR, directing callers to safety, evacuating families from house fires, and coordinating complex emergency responses every single day. We hope you never need them, but when you do, you know they'll answer your call. Thank you dispatchers!

Public Service Announcement: It’s that time of year! For those of you who may not be familiar, you may see a low flying agricultural airplane that circles back and forth emitting pesticides. This is also known as crop dusting. Please try to refrain from calling 911 if you see this plane crop dusting the fields.

Thank you!
