September is Hunger Action Month and we support the Redwood Empire Food Bank's efforts to end hunger in Sonoma County. You can get involved by supporting hunger relief efforts at every level, including our local nonprofit food pantry. https://www.healdsburgfoodpantry.org/

Hunger Action Month is in full swing!

This week is a big one! Join us Saturday for our Kendra Scott Gives Back event where 20% of purchases will go directly to the Redwood Empire Food Bank. Come shop for a cause and say hi!

We're also dropping a new video this week highlighting all the ways you can volunteer, as well as featuring our partners who shop at our Food Connections Market.

Mark your calendars: Hunger Action Day is September 29! And don't forget to tag us and use to share how you're taking action this month.

Tomorrow (September 15) is IT Professionals Day. We celebrate the hard working staff who untangle the wires (physically and metaphorically) and keep us safe and connected.

Trees offer big benefits for neighborhoods and the environment. Help protect your trees when removing lawn:
• Avoid digging or scraping under the tree canopy, which can damage roots
• Avoid removing lawn without updating irrigation
• Avoid cutting off irrigation too quickly
• Avoid adding hardscape or stone directly around base of tree
• Avoid chemical or soil damage from herbicides or soil compaction

FURRY FRIDAYS: The City of Healdsburg is partnering with Compassion Without Borders to bring attention to the abundance of adoptable dogs. Staff from the Healdsburg Fire Department offered to pose with adoptable pooches for this campaign.

Say hello to Barbie, a 4-year-old boxer mix who is an absolute doll. This sweet mama looks like a mini boxer with her apple head and slightly smooshed face. Like her namesake, she's known for her knockout looks and zest for life, but she's more than just a pretty face. Barbie is an absolute lover. This gentle girl loves giving and receiving affection. She gets along well with other dogs, loves treats, and does great on a leash. When it comes to love, Barbie doesn't toy around, she's all in. Barbie is posing with Healdsburg Firefighters Dean De La Montanye and Sam Douglass-Thomas.

Barbie is currently available for adoption from Compassion Without Borders.
Compassion Without Borders brings brighter futures to homeless animals, by rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming at-risk animals from California and Mexico in need on both sides of the border. They focus on where the need is greatest, where animals are least likely to be helped due to financial, geographic, and cultural barriers. To learn more, visit cwob.org.

Preparedness doesn’t have to happen all at once. Start with the essentials and build your emergency supplies over time. For Week 2 of National Preparedness Month, take a few minutes to check what you already have and identify what your household may still need.

Consider including:
💧 Essential items: Water, nonperishable food, medications, first aid supplies, hygiene items, and clothing.
🔋 Power & tech: Flashlights, extra batteries, phone chargers, power banks, and a battery-powered radio.
🎒 Go-bag supplies: Important documents, cash, keys, pet supplies, and personal items you would need if you had to leave quickly.

Remember to consider the unique needs of everyone in your household, including children, older adults, pets, medical needs, and mobility or accessibility needs.
Take one step today: Check your emergency supplies and add one or two items you’re missing.
